El fin de semana comenzaba de forma atípica ya que viviríamos una clasificación el viernes, y desde ese instante veríamos el show del monegasco, colocó su auto en una 4ta posición que ninguno esperaba, es indudable su talento a una vuelta, ya quedó demostrado en la clasificación de Sakhir 2020, y en este caso se impuso a su compañero quien quedó 9no, Charles salía desde segunda fila para la clasificación al sprint del sábado, donde se definirían los puestos para la carrera del domingo, en dicha clasificación fue un poco más tranquila para el, salió bien y aguantó su posición, después que Pérez trompeara su clasificación fue más tranquila, pues su ritmo era muy bueno y nadie lo podía inquietar por su posición, completo las 17 vueltas y terminó en la 4ta plaza de nuevo con Bottas por delante.

Antes de la primera parada se encendían las alarmas en el Cavalino, su auto número 16 reportaba fallas en el motor, sufriendo cortes de potencia, así lo describía Leclerc, en esta instancia Hamilton logró recortar y tener DRS, pero de forma excepcional Charles lo contuvo; mientras recibía parámetros del ingeniero para solucionar el problema con la unidad de potencia.
