YouTube, Uber, and Fiverr only had 1 pay mechanism for years, not sure I'd consider this relevant
Sorta...and now they're all sort of trapped... that's what centralization does it is a controlling power. My youtube friends always realize they are skating on thin ice... "what if youtube changes their algorithm again? What if they have another out of control bot that demonetizes people AGAIN? What if i say something and I get cancelled like other people?"
But also not true in case on content platforms like youtube... they also have tips which they have even more direct control over. They can entice people and make that work for them.
Also youtubers and all sorts of content creators know they should focus on other funding mechanisms. I should have listed those as well.
- Ongoing sponsorships
- Integrated ads
- Affiliate sales
They're a clever bunch and know they can't put all their eggs into one basket... aka the basket of AdSense. This also helps them to not freak out whenever something happens on adsense because they are on ground that is in a sense at least more decentralized.
This is why putting heavy emphasis on the inflation that comes into the Hive Reward Pool is been so problematic because content creators should be thinking about all the other things. They can do affiliate and sponsorships already heck they can integrate ads into their post already if they wanted. And we have a FREE tip system where they get 100% of what someone tips. That is amazing. And in a couple weeks we will have recurring transfers a smart creator can use! And then maybe leverage that into paywall content! There are also multiple reward pools though many of them are a bit weak and peakd hasn't found the time to integrate them into the interface (lots of testnet development presently going on)
But it's just so problematic to put so much stress and emphasis on just one feature it is unfair to that feature to expect it to be the all in one curative for everything. It simply can not hold the weight of the entire platform. Don't get me wrong it's a fun feature, it works, I use it... i like it... But it simply can't be the FACE of this platform it's too finite and it's not strong enough and it's too complicated and too fraught with people thinking a vote = immediate money and they don't realize it takes 7 days and every single vote is counted up and DOWN and people are so sensitive to those down votes they falsely think someone is taking their money. And then the system is fragile and can be gamed and abused and so there requires a lot of human effort to create a balance with other people who seek out those who abuse.
I love hive rewards pool... but for what it is... and what it is cool but what it is NOT = the face of HIVE. It needs to take a step back so other things can take a step forward.
