After writing my last post about the 21st century economy, I sat down and started thinking about my own life here in Lagos and how much my mindset has changed in the past few years.
Before, I used to believe that working hard only meant waking up early, entering a bus, facing traffic and coming back home tired. That was the definition of effort for me. If you are not physically stressed, it will feel like you are not doing anything serious.
But life has a way of teaching you new things.
Now my phone and my laptop are part of my daily survival. What used to look like normal scrolling has turned into learning, working, connecting and even earning. Sometimes I just sit and smile when I think about it, because this was not the life I imagined some years ago.
Living in Lagos will humble you, but it will also open your eyes.
You will see people doing two or three different things just to stay afloat. You will see creativity everywhere. Someone is selling online, another person is designing, another is trading crypto. The strength people put into surviving here is something that motivates me every day.
For me, this new digital life is not just about money. It is about growth.
I have become more patient with myself. I no longer compare my journey with others the way I used to. Everybody is moving at their own pace, and that is something I remind myself of often.
Writing regularly made me understand my own thoughts better. Reading other people’s stories made me feel less alone. Even when the rewards are not huge, the process still means something to me.
That is the part many people don’t see.
This journey is teaching me consistency, and how to appreciate progress, no matter how small.
The economy is changing, yes. The world is moving fast. But the most important thing is that I am also changing with it. I am learning, I am adjusting and I am not giving up on myself.
And for now, that is more than enough for me.
