I love drawing maps
Seriously, it's so much fun. It's a relaxing and rewarding way to pass the time and I'm finally getting back to it. Last year was rough for my mapping progress and I got very little actually produced despite loving the hobby.
Then came Christmas and my birthday back to back, and I recieved a ton of cool stuff to help with my Mapmaking.
First, I got a new batch of Copic pens and a book about drawing Fantasy Maps which covers some things I haven't done before and also provides a different drawing style than I'm used to. So, I put the pair of them to work and whipped up a slick little Inn.
This was hand drawn and then coloured with the new Copic markers. I'm not super well versed in using them so it's a lot of exploring what they do and how they behave, and it's been a ton of fun.
I also was given a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6Lite by my wife - it's a great little drawing tablet that I've been eyeing for a couple of years now, and I love it!
It's been a bit of work to get used to drawing with a stylus pen, and I am currently using Medibang as my drawing app which seems decent but definitely has some clunky UX to it that I'm having to remember to work around.
It has let me produce a fun little map however (and has made for every day so far this year being one I have practiced Mapmaking on).
It's been a blast to practice with, and while I don't think I'll ALWAYS colour my work, it has been fun to see just how easy it is to colourize the map.
I know that on twitter and insta, map folks are going hard on the #dungeon23 mega dungeon one-year challenge and while I don't think I'll subscribe to a full year of making a room a day, I may toss together a floor or two just for fun and practice.
And, that's it for me today. Short and sweet, I just wanted to show off some of the maps I've been working on and speculate about future maps.
Until next time! 👋
