Good day all and welcome to another Cape Town, South African post of me, Zak, checking out the hobby vibe at our local wargaming store - Sword and Board in Milnerton!
I popped out to see 's SO and give him something. Another old friend Bernie had asked me to come and have a look at a Carnage battle.
I was familiar with Carnage battles as a game type that was played in Cape Town back in my day. Obviously, this was going to be played in 9th edition rules.
Let's check that out and some of the other sights!
CARNAGE pits four smallish armies of around 800pts each and the main objective is to go for the middle of the board and you score more based on this!
On the left there are some World Eaters Chaos Space Marines with a Daemon Prince. On the right there is the T'au Empire, among other things, they are fielding a Riptibe battle suit.
Up the middle of the picture in the back there are some Space Marines including various marines.
The fourth army I could not get into this picture because from this direction it would block out the rest of the shot!
An Imperial Knight stalks up this side of the battlefield! Awesome!
The Imperial Knights player also had two smaller knights called Armigers in his force, but these had already been destroyed before I got the to venue. lol!
I popped in upstairs and saw this... around 18 odd people playing various games upstairs. Among others, was there! Woohoo!
Lex was busy playing a Blood Bowl game against her opponent, Charles. Blood Bowl is like american football with fantasy races and a LOT more violence!
In a game, your objective is the score a touchdown and there are 5 main archetypes to how teams achieve this feat. You play multiple games across a League and your team earns money and your players become more experienced as time goes on.
Lex plays a Lizardman team, above depicted with non-standard models I am sure she can give us more details about herself. In essence, Lizardmen have some really big lizards that are there to block and fight while little lizards, called Skinks zip and zoom around and score touchdowns.
Her opponent Charles playes a Norse Team. They have some base fighting rules across the entire team that in most other teams only your offensive team members have. They are also fairly fast, but not as fast as skinks. The payoff with this team is their low armor values and injuries are common in this team!
But they do have Yhetee!
Lots of deep thought happening here.
In the end of this match, emerged as the victor! Awesome!
I should probably bring my Dwarf Team, the Doom Anvils to the table sometime. also knows how to play and would play a Chaos team, the one that gets a Minotaur on their team!
Well... more about Blood Bowl, painting and army building in the next post!
