Good day and welcome to another Lore post set in the 41st millenium! My name is Zak and I am writing to you from my dining room table in Cape Town, South Africa!
Today's lore post will deal with the character I will be using THIS model to represent him!
Bjorn the Eternal
In a nutshell - Bjorn is the oldest dreadnought in the Imperium! Having survived and fighting for over 10,000 years!
Bjorn was alive in the Great Crusade and fought alongside both the Emperor and Primarch Leman Russ.
Leman Russ named Bjorn as part of his Wolf Guard, a personal bodyguard and retinue in war.
After the Horus Heresy, Leman Russ, went on a quest with his Wolf Guard - all save for Bjorn, who the Primarch commanded to stay.
Bjorn was eventually elected to be the Chapter's Great Wolf and thus became the leader of the entire Space Wolf chapter to lead in the stead of the Primarch until his return.
In his duty to his Chapter and the Imperium, Bjorn was slain in combat. He was, however, saved and interred as a Dreadnought. From here forward his legend grew even more as he survived and vanquished his enemies.
Bjorn stepped down as a Great Wolf when it was no longer possible for him to commit to the duties of a Chapter Master. (I am assuming that this means things like sitting on a chair or fitting into a meeting room. lol)
On the Tabletop
In the game he is unique in the fact that he is a Dreadnought that can be selected as one of the leaders of your army. He is also able to choose what ranged weapon he wants to use.
The most exciting thing about fielding him is that he has the Character keyword and since he is a Character with 9 Wounds or less, character rules apply. Including the Look Out Sir! rule.
This means that when Bjorn is not your closest target and he is within 3" of a friendly vehicle, monstrous creature or units with 3 or more models. He is already really tough but when you are unable to target him!
I hope to be playing Bjorn in games of the tabletop wargame soon!
