Today's Lore post will be about the Adeptus Mechanicusm yet another one of the Imperial Factions that fight alongside the Imperial Guard and the Space Marines.
But instead of shouts of "For the Emperor!" these priests have a slightly different religion. In the current 41st millenium if an Inquisitor or priest heard their chants of "For the Omnissiah!" then we would have a holy war on our hands.
But it turns out, the Emperor had a plan when he first arrived on Mars to convince the Techpriests to join his cause, he fulfilled some of their prophesies and most of the Adeptus Mechanicus ended up believing that the Emperor is the Omnisiah!
And yes. You read that right - They are called TechPRIESTS. This is because all their manufaturing and maintenance is not understood and highly ritualized.
The fact of the matter is that most people in Warhammer 40,000 do not understand technology in the slightest. The general population have no clue what a program is on a computer or how electricity works.
Even the majority of the Techpriests themselves only follow the rituals as have been passed down from generation to generation. Most of those at this level have no idea why they bring sacred oils to a machine once a day or what the "Runes of Ignition" are.
Additionally, there is this idea of Machine Spirits. This term is used loosely for any sort of program from a interface all the way up to near Artificial Intelligence. A suit of armor or a gun might have a Machine Spirit, but so can tanks and ships.
It is apparently tech-heresy to create full Artificial Intelligence, yet it is well recorded how certain tanks, driven by their Machine Spirits alone, continue fighting and transporting troops while all the pilots were slain.
Another feature is the use of human framework to create Servitors. Depending on the world, this might be seen as the ultimate punishment or it could be seen as a sort of a blessing. This is where the person is lobotomized and turned into a cyborg.
Aside from my Techmarines, I do not have any real Adeptus Mechanicus models in my collection... but ones day I will...
