Sadistic Space Elf Lore
Right. So a while back before I stared talking about the various Chaos Gods in 40k, I mentioned the Aeldari or "Asuryani" as they are also known as. Asuryani means they follow the path of Asuryan, an Eldar God, the Phoenix King.
The Aeldari have a long History, having been born, rose to galactic power (they practically owned the galaxy) AND fell from that power all before humanity became a star-faring race.
Their origins I will leave for the lore post of ANOTHER faction but basically, these spandex-wearing pointy-eared princes and princesses of the universe were responsible for the birth of a Chaos God and caused something that in their own race is known as "The Fall".
But let's back up a bit.
Aeldari before the fall
The Aeldari were once a unified and galaxy-spanning race, their technology so advanced that basic mundane jobs such as mining, farming and building were all done away with through automation and AI. They took over the galaxy and one of the main pieces of technology that allowed them to do this was the Webway.
The Webway is a dimension, sort of like the Warp, but apart from the Warp that allows faster than light travel. It sort of reminds me of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. There are entire cities inside the Webway.
Around about this time, where automation began making the Aeldari race... lazy and focused on things other than survival a group of Eldar left their Empire. These were known as the Exodites, who continued on being frontier explorers and somewhat nomads.
Meanwhile, life for the Aeldari turned to that of art and artifice. The race spent all of its time perfecting perfection. Art, music, performance, food, drugs, sex, crafting, science and martial arts were the only things left for them to do.
As I explained in the Aeldari article, anytime you find one of these space elves, they tend to be unequaled experts in some or another field.
Most likely amongst their number of regular fighters, the finest chefs, musicians, scientists and artists in the galaxy exist.
But oops, did I mention drugs and sex? Well yeah, anything that was art or the senses were the things that the Aeldari spent their time on, and some focus on those more than others. Some became a bit debased and depraved in their exploration of those two things to a point of specialization only Eldar are capable of.
This is where the followers of the Way of Aruryan and the Drukhari were at odds with one another. I do not think there was specifically a war that set them apart. Instead, just like with the Exodites, a large amount of Asuryani just left the Webway cities and went out into the galaxy on their Craftworlds.
The Fall and the Birth of She-who-Thirsts
Did I mention that all Aeldari are quite psychic? Well it turns out that when you fill a massive city full of psychic aliens on drugs and touching each other and doing all sorts of crazy stuff to each other then bad things happen.
All of a sudden a Chaos God of Lust, Excess, Pleasure and Pain was born. She Who Thirsts instantly ripped majority of the the Eldar's souls from their bodies and used the resulting energy to create its power.
The forces of the Imperium know this God as Slaanesh, the Prince of Excess. The Aeldari call it Sai'lanthresh.
A small fraction of Eldar managed to survive. Without going further into the details of the Chaos God, which I will cover in a separate article tomorrow, all Eldar now had a problem: Their souls were tied to she who thirsts.
The Asuryani keep their souls safe by wearing a soul stone technology. These gems get put into a matrix that keeps them, their history and knowledge safe.
The Drukhari however capture and kill their enemies and use their enemies' souls to stave off the pull of Sai'lanthresh.
The Drukhari on the Battlefield
On the battlefield the Drukhari are an absolute glass cannon - They deal a lot of damage... they are unable to take much damage.
Their best defence is in avoiding damage by being fast and sneaky and have a bit of shielding technology. Other than that, the moment you actually hit something, it tends to die.
However, this army is capable of crossing the table to where they want to be extremely fast and hurt you where it hurts most quickly. The best Drukhari players know as much about their prey as the opponent knows about his own army and this leds Drukhari matchups in tournaments a particular flavour.
Does my opponent know what he is doing? If they don't, this is an easy win. But there is a horror in seeing how this army swoops in and disables and destroys key parts of your army and then you realize that your opponent knows exactly what they and YOU are capable of.

I will finish off this post with an important message:
Don't do drugs kids.
You might just spawn a Chaos God. 👹
