Hello dear Jewelry friends, I hope you are all doing well. First of all, I want to thank this wonderful community that always opens its virtual doors and allows us to share our creations with one another. I also want to congratulate all those who remain active despite the circumstances. And in one of those circumstances, I want to share with you a very famous symbol: Infinity. It's used in the world of mathematics, but it also helps us understand and give meaning to many things, from the spiritual to the personal. I've made it in the shape of a heart because, although we are mortal and finite beings, language allows us to dream of eternal things, one of which is love. This piece isn't continuous; rather, the two parts are intertwined with a void between them, yet they remain connected. Here, I'll show you how I made this simple but meaningful piece.
Hola queridos amigos de Jewelry, espero que se encuentren muy bien, en primer lugar agradezco a esta maravillosa comunidad que siempre abre sus puertas virtuales y nos permite compartir nuestras creaciones unos con otros, y también felicito a todos aquellos que se mantienen activos a pesar de la circunstancias. Y en una de esas circunstancias quier compartir con ustedes un símbolo muy famoso, el cual es el Infinito, utilizado en el mundo de las matemáticas pero que funciona para entender y darle significado a muchas cosas, desde lo espiritual hasta lo persona. Lo he realizado con forma de corazón, y es porque aunque somos seres mortales y finitos, el lenguaje nos permite soñar con cosas eternas, una de esas es el amor. Esta pieza no es continua, sino que están entrelazadas con un vacío entre ambos que sin embargo permiten estar unidas. Aquí voy a mostrarte como hice esta pieza sencilla pero con mucho significado.

I chose a light-colored wood because my varnish is running out, and sometimes it's hard to get the shine right because a layer of white wax forms, which I don't like how it looks on darker wood. So, once I chose the wood, I cut it, cleaned it, and drew a double heart on one side. You can see that the hearts are intertwined; my goal is to create two pieces that form a single unit. Did you know that this is the etymological origin of the word "symbol"?
Elegí la madera, una que fuera de color claro, ya que el barniz se me está terminando y a veces cuesta para que el brillo se observe porque se hace una capa de cera blanca que no me gusta como se ve en madera de otro color más oscura. Así que una vez elegida la madera lo que hice fue cortarla, limpiarla y por una de sus caras dibujar un corazón doble. Pueden observar que los corazones están entrelazados, pues mi objetivo es sacar dos piezas y que las dos formen parte de una. ¿Sabían que este es el origen etimológico de la palabra "símbolo"?

The process is as follows: first, I'll completely remove the outlines of the figure, and then I'll focus on the center until I separate the two hearts. What I do is score the entire outline I've drawn with the blade, and then gradually remove each section of the outline.
El proceso es el siguiente, en primer lugar me voy a dedicar a retirar los bordes de la figura por completo, y luego me concentraré en el centro hasta separar ambos corazones. Lo que hago es marcar con la hoja de la cuchilla todo el trazo que he dibujado, para luego poco a poco pasar a retirar por zonas cada uno de los bordes.

Next, I repeat the same process on each of the edges and corners. I remove the excess wood until the shape I made in the initial drawing is completely visible.
Seguidamente voy repitiendo el mismo proceso en cada uno de los bordes y sus esquina. Voy quitando el exceso de madera hasta que la forma que había hecho en el dibujo inicial quede totalmente visible.

Now comes the most difficult step: carving the inside of the figure to create the empty space. Here, you must carve following the drawing, but shaping it so that one heart is on top of the other. If you're not careful, you could easily overlook this detail, resulting in a single piece instead of two in one, as intended.
Ahora viene el paso mas difícil y se trata de tallar el interior de la figura para dejar el espacio vació, aquí se debe tallar siguiendo el dibujo, pero dando la forma de que un corazón este por encima del otro. Si uno no es cuidadoso podría simplemente pasar por alto este detalle y entonces estaría una sola pieza y no dos en una como es el propósito.

Once the openings for both hearts are made, I turn the piece over to carve the back and make the same cuts, little by little, until the shape is completely formed. After that, I cut the piece of wood where the two hearts are joined. When you separate them, you can see that each heart is attached to the other, leaving a gap between them.
Una vez se ha realizado las aberturas de ambos corazones, le doy la vuelta a la pieza para tallar por la parte trasera y hacer los mismos cortes, poco a poco hasta que la forma esté totalmente completa. Luego de eso lo que hago es cortar el trozo de madera por donde estan unidos ambos corazones, al separarlas se puede ver que cada corazón esta unido al otro, mientras queda un vacío entre ellos.

Then I started sanding both pieces with very fine sandpaper, removing the rough edges and smoothing the wood until it was soft to the touch. I attached a metal ring to the top of the larger heart for the necklace, then applied a coat of gloss varnish and let it dry for a few minutes.
Luego comencé a lijar ambas piezas con una lija muy fina, así puede quitarle las partes donde el corte habia sido muy accidentado y también pulir la madera hasta dejarla suave al tacto. Puse en la parte superior del corazón más grande un aro de metal para el collar, luego de eso le puse barniz brillante y deje secar por unos cuantos minutos.
FINAL WORK
What do you think of the result? I had to be quite careful when letting the pieces dry, as they risked sticking together if I hadn't. In ancient times, the symbol represented the act of two people taking an object and breaking it, each taking a piece. Joining the pieces together established the bond between them, hence the symbol's meaning. The infinity symbol, represented by two hearts, signifies eternal love, or rather, love that is renewed time and again. Even though they are separated by a small void, they cannot truly be apart. I hope you enjoyed this project, as it embodies a deeper meaning. It has been a pleasure to share it with you. For now, I'll say goodbye, and I hope to see you soon.
¿Qué les ha parecido el resultado? Para dejar secar las piezas tuve que hacer malabares ya que si dejaba que se unieran corrían el riesgo de quedarse pegadas al secar el barniz. En la antiguedad, el símbolo era el acto por el cual dos personas tomaban un objeto y lo partían, tomando cada uno un pedazo, al unirlo quedaba establecido el vículo entre ambos, de ahí que el símbolo tena ese sinificado. El infinito representado en dos corazones, significa el amor eterno, o mejor dicho el amor que se renueva una y otra vez, aunque ambos esten separados por un pequeño vacío entre ellos, no pueden alejarse uno del otro. Espero que les haya gustado este trabajo, pues encierra una idea detrás de él, ha sido un gusto poder haber compartido, por ahora me despido y será hasta pronto.
