A walk in Semur-en-Auxois is a true journey through the centuries. The town center, remarkably well preserved, immediately immerses us in an intact medieval atmosphere. The Sauvigny Gate and the Guillier Gate, each with its own character and history, reinforce this feeling of stepping back in time. The old streets, stone façades, and traces of past life create a setting almost outside the modern world.
And then, around a corner, the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame appears: imposing, reassuring, like an unchanging landmark in the heart of this history-filled town.
Une balade à Semur-en-Auxois, c’est un véritable voyage à travers les siècles. Le cœur de ville, remarquablement préservé, nous plonge aussitôt dans une atmosphère médiévale intacte. La porte Sauvigny et la porte Guillier, chacune avec son caractère et son histoire, renforcent cette impression de remonter le temps. Les ruelles anciennes, les façades de pierre et les traces de vie d’autrefois composent un décor presque hors du monde moderne.
Et puis, au détour des rues, la collégiale Notre-Dame apparaît : imposante, rassurante, comme un repère immuable au milieu de cette cité chargée d’histoire.
