Hello everyone, good morning. I mentioned last month that I held a watercolor workshop for beginners, and that although we work with this painting medium in my teaching, there were many techniques I was unfamiliar with.
I wanted to put it into practice now, so I bought several materials to create an illustrated storybook with these paints. Taking one of my children's books as a starting point, I began illustrating it using a preschool activity book.
Hola a todos, muy buenos días. Les comenté que el mes pasado hice un taller de acuarela para principiantes, y que aunque en mi labor docente trabajábamos con esta herramienta de pintura, había muchas técnicas que desconocía.
Quise ponerla en práctica ahora, y compré varios materiales para crear con estas pinturas, un libro de cuentos ilustrado. Tomando una de mis obras de literatura infantil, comencé mi tarea de ilustrarla usando un cuadernillo de preescolar.
Below is a list of the materials I used and the steps to create it. It's important to note that I'll only be showing the process in part of the book because I haven't finished it yet. Since it's a bit long, it involves more drawings and more time for the paint to dry so I can work on it without damaging the artwork.
A continuación les doy la lista de materiales que usé y los pasos para elaborarlo. Cabe destacar que les voy a mostrar el procedimiento sólo en una parte del libro porque aún no lo he terminado. Por ser un poco largo, implica más dibujos y más tiempo para que la pintura seque y se pueda trabajar sobre ella sin dañar el arte.
Materials:
A preschool notebook with mixed paper (half white and half lined)
A set of 12 tube watercolors
Paintbrushes of various thicknesses
White recycled paper or magazine pages
A small cloth
A glass of water for washing the brushes
A small glass of water for diluting the paints
A small container or glass base for mixing the paints
A fine-tip black marker
A black pen
Materiales:
Un cuadernillo de preescolar con hojas mixtas (mitad blanca y mitad rayada)
Una caja de acuarela en tubos de 12 colores
Pinceles de varios grosores
Hojas blancas de reciclaje o de revistas
Pañito
Vaso con agua para lavar los pinceles
Vasito con agua para diluir las pinturas
Recipiente pequeño o base de vidrio para mezclar las pinturas
Marcador negro punta fina
Lapicero negro
Procedure:
The first step in creating this illustrated storybook was to place some recycled paper under the booklet's cover sheet to prevent it from getting dirty underneath. I immediately began mixing my paints, adding a small amount from the tube and diluting it with water until I achieved the desired shades. I started with blue to create the sky and then green for the vegetation.
It's important to note that this type of paint on paper tends to weaken and wrinkle it, so once it dries, the process isn't repeated with other paints, nor is it applied over the already painted sheet to avoid damaging it.
Procedimiento:
El primer paso para elaborar este libro de cuentos ilustrado, fue colocar unas hojas recicladas debajo de la hoja del cuadernillo, para evitar ensuciarlo por debajo. De inmediato comencé a formar mis mezclas colocando un poquito de pintura del tubo, y diluyendo con agua hasta lograr las tonalidades que quería. Comencé con el azul para crear el cielo y luego el verde para la vegetación.
Algo importante que destacar es que este tipo de pintura sobre hojas de papel, tiende a debilitarlo y arrugarlo, por lo que al secar, no se repite el proceso con otras pinturas, ni se remarca en exceso sobre la hoja ya pintada para no dañarla.
The drawings in this book consist solely of coloring the background and outlining the characters in black. Once the sky was finished, I proceeded to color the vegetation and the foliage of the trees. All the pages of the book were colored in the same way, since the background is always the same.
Los dibujos de este libro consisten únicamente en colorear el escenario y realizar sólo siluetas de los personajes en color negro. Una vez culminado el cielo, procedí a colorear la vegetación y el follaje de los árboles. De la misma manera se procedió a colorear todas las hojas del libro ya que el escenario siempre es el mismo.
Finally, using a fine-tipped black marker, I outlined the characters from the story according to the scene unfolding in the lines. In this first part, I'm only showing you the first few pages, and in the next post, I'll be able to show you the more colorful cover and title page.
Finalmente, con un marcador punta fina color negro, fui delineando siluetas de los personajes del cuento según la escena que se iba desarrollando en las líneas. En esta primera parte sólo les muestro las primeras páginas, y en el siguiente post, ya podré mostrarles la carátula y la página de presentación más coloridas.
