We've been spending a lot of time clearing out the dirt and sand near these giant slabs of concrete to make it a lot safer to spend time.
Self Excavation
One of the most important things for us has been making sure that we have a safe space to spend time this summer, if we are still living in the area. It also helps for our future if we do move away, getting the junk out of there early is best!
Thankfully the tools we have have been largely very helpful in getting all of the different shit out of the path down to the water. I was incredibly glad that these slabs here were not connected by cement, just by being next to each other. I wasn't sure how the hell I would get them out if they were connected lol. I was able to get this thing out and there was another one near it. It looks like a grave stone but it ended up being very helpful to have. There is a spot down at the water where we needed these large flat rocks!
This area right here is a nice little spot to hang out when it's summer time. The water comes right up to the edge of the sand and above these are some nice trees that provide some important shade for when my wife hangs out, keeping an eye on our son while she's at the lake with him. I was glad to be able to put some stones here and she can rest a nice chair on them, keep her feet in the water but not necessarily get the chair wet and rusty so that was great. Multipurpose!
The process to get this out has begun. This one is probably a huge chunk of foundation and it's hundreds of pounds for sure so I decided that we aren't going to take the whole thing out. I'm just going to re-bury it since it's so big. What I have to do first though, is get all of the dirt and sand out from the rocks so that I can break it apart.
The foundation slab is going to be a bit challenging to get rid of, so I am trying to see if I can use a sledge hammer and chisel to break it apart as best I can. We will definitely be using safety glasses to do that work and I'm sure the little man will have some fun watching me. He will probably want some soundproof headphones, he's got some sensitive ears to these types of work that I have to do lol can't blame him, maybe I'll wear a pair myself! I'm hoping to destroy the top 6 or so openings and side walls of the block here, maybe more depending on how easy or difficult it ends up being.
