🌅🥥Coconut fiber for plants🌻🌿

During my recent visit to Colombia, I had the opportunity to buy some processed coconut fiber for my plants; a product that really worked for them. After doing some research, I discovered a way to process it at home that seemed the most logical and brilliant of all. Since we recently had Holy Week in Latin America, we can find a lot of the familiar coconut husk or "hair" discarded on the streets, due to the sweets made during that week. Rather than seeing it as pollution, I see it as an opportunity to do something good for my garden. In short, this coconut fiber is used to control humidity and improve aeration for plants, so under these conditions, it seems to be very useful for our little plants in the yard.

En mi reciente visita a Colombia tuve una oportunidad de comprar allá una fibra de coco procesada para las plantas; un producto que de verdad funcionó para mis plantas, e investigando un poco, descubrí una manera de procesarlo en casa que me pareció la más lógica y genial de todas. Como recientemente tuvimos en temporada de "Semana Santa" en Latinoamérica, podemos conseguir botadas en la calle mucha de la conocida Concha o "Pelo" de Coco, debido a los dulces realizados en dicha semana, y yo más que contaminación, veo una oportunidad de hacer algo bueno para mi jardín. En pocas palabras, esta fibra de coco es utilizada para el control de la humedad y la aireación de las plantas, así que bajo estas condiciones, parece ser que esta es muy útil en nuestras pequeñas del patio.

I started by placing small pieces of the fiber on a plate with enough space. You should try to break them up as finely as possible, as you can see in the photo. Then I microwaved them for one minute to ensure they were sterilized and any mold that might grow on them was eliminated. This was the exact procedure I used because it was the most logical one I found online, and it's the one I trust the most.

Comencé por dejar trozos pequeños de la fibra en un plato con suficiente espacio. Acá debes hacer lo posible por dejarla lo más finas posibles, tal como puedes detallar en la foto, para luego llevarlo al microondas por 1 minuto, y así verificar que se esterilice y se eliminen aquellos hongos que suelen crecer en ellos. Este fue el procedimiento exacto que utilicé, porque fue el más lógico que leí en internet, y realmente es el que me da más confianza de todas.

I continued collecting "black soil" from my mother's yard, since it's filled with this soil. In fact, my mother has some very healthy and delicious fruit trees on this land, such as mango, avocado, passion fruit, lemon, etc. That's why I felt confident using it. I used a little more than twice the amount of sand and mixed it very well before using it.

Proseguí recogiendo "tierra negra" del patio de mi mamá, ya que aquí está relleno de esta tierra, de hecho en este terreno mi mamá tiene algunas plantas frutales que son altamente sanas y deliciosas, como: Mango, Aguacate, Parchita, limón, etc. Por eso confié bastante en utilizarla, utilicé un poco más del doble de la arena y lo mezclé muy bien para utilizarlo.

If you look closely, in one of the pictures you can see that I also used charcoal. Since my mom cooks with firewood every weekend, there's charcoal scattered in her backyard at her business, and when I went to eat there, I took advantage of the situation and used some of the charcoal from the fires. Charcoal can help control humidity and act as a filter for plants, as well as a fungicide. In the picture, you can see that I added it directly to the planter, placing it about two centimeters deep to act as a filter, and I also added some to the soil to provide some charcoal.

Si notan, en una de las imágenes pueden notar que también utilicé carbón vegetal, y como mi mamá cocina con leña todos los fines de semana, en su negocio hay carbón esparcido en su patio trasero, y ahora que fui a comer allá aproveché y agarré algunos de los fogones y los utilicé. El carbón puede servir para el control de la húmeda y como filtro para las plantas, al igual que un controlador de hongos. En la imagen pueden ver que los agregué directamente al matero, colocándolo al fondo unos dos centímetros, para su función como filtro y agregué un poco a la tierra para que también porte un poco de carbón.

This plant is known as the "Rabbit Ear" cactus or "Blinding Cactus" because of its small spines, which serve as a defense mechanism against insects that try to feed on it. This is one of my oldest cacti; I actually had a larger one, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to control a white fungus that always appears on it. I hope the charcoal I used helps it.

Esta planta es conocida como el cactus "Oreja de Conejo" o "Cactus Cegador" por sus pequeñas púas que sirven como método de defensa contra algunos insectos que tratan de buscar comidas en ella. Este es uno de mis cactus más antiguos, realmente tenía uno más grande, pero lamentablemente no he podido controlar un hongo blanco que siempre le aparece, espero que el carbón utilizado le sirva de mucho.

I was surprised at how big my cacti have grown since I returned. I already had several plants that I lost for various reasons, but I'm still very happy with the ones that are still here. Me pareció sorprendente lo grande que conseguí a mis cactus desde mi regreso, anteriormente ya tenía varias plantas que por diferentes motivos he perdido por distintos motivos, pero aun así estoy muy feliz de los que aquí siguen.
