Hello hive
Happy new month, DIY Hub family! 🎉
May this month bring fresh ideas, creativity, and success to all our hands. Let’s keep creating and inspiring! ✨
Today I’m excited to share detail on how I made this simple, classy, and free-bubu Ankara gown with a fringe underneath—perfect for comfort and style!
For this outfit, I used 2 yards of Ankara fabric and 2 yards of black fringe, along with my basic tools like tape rule, chalk, and matching thread.
I started by folding my Ankara fabric into four to cut both the front and back together. This makes the process faster and ensures neatness. From the top edge, I marked my shoulder measurement (15 inches) and added my sleeve length (12 inches) to achieve that loose bubu sleeve style.
Next, on that shoulder line, I measured 11 inches downward to create the sleeve opening. This is very important so the outfit doesn’t feel tight around the arm area.
For the neckline, I kept it simple and elegant Neck width: 4 inches Front depth: 7 inches (V-shape) Back depth: 1.5 inches (round)
After cutting the neckline, I moved to shaping the gown. Since bubu gowns are free-sized, I used the hip measurement (40 inches) as the widest part of the body and added 6 inches allowance for comfort. I marked this across and connected it straight down to the full length of 39 inches (shoulder to knee).
To make it more functional, I marked 17 inches from the shoulder for the pocket placement. This adds both style and convenience to the outfit.
After cutting everything out neatly, I began sewing by joining the sides from the sleeve down, making sure to leave the 11-inch space for the arm opening. I then attached the pockets and neatly finished the neckline using a clean bias.
Now to the highlight of the outfit — the fringe!I carefully attached the black fringe to the hem of the Ankara, ensuring it was evenly distributed. This gave the gown that beautiful layered effect and extra movement when worn.
After fixing the fringe, I did a final trimming and pressed the outfit properly for a clean, professional finish.
✨ And here is the result—a comfortable, stylish, and elegant bubu gown that is perfect for casual outings or special occasions.
