"Everything done out of love is beyond good and evil," the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, the subject of this post, once declared. And indeed, if the things we do can transcend social constraints, we are acting out of convictions that go beyond good and evil, especially when we fight for a dream that keeps us alive and living life with passion. I am a very avid reader of Nietzsche's literature; I have read his masterpiece, "Thus Spoke Zarathustra," on several occasions, and the teachings and lessons I can learn are countless. The philosophy of the will to power and how it leads us to overcome the old values that deny the affirmation of life is very interesting. I know that discussing these topics can be quite dense; however, when we apply these small pieces of advice, we can see how our minds open to knowledge. Now, I leave you with this brief tutorial on how I drew the German thinker. I hope you like it.
"Todo lo que se hace por amor, está más allá del bien y del mal" Sentenció una vez el filósofo alemán Friedrich Nietzsche, protagonista de esta publicación, y es que si las cosas que hacemos pueden superar las imposiciones sociales, estamos actuando por convicciones que van más allá del bien y del mal, especialmente cuando luchamos por un sueño, el cual nos mantiene vivos y viviendo la vida con pasión. Soy un lector muy asiduo a la literatura de Nietzsche, he leído su obra cumbre "Así habló Zaratustra" en varias oportunidades y las enseñanzas y lecciones que puedo aprender son innumerables. La filosofía de la voluntad de poder y como esta nos lleva a superar los viejos valores que niegan la afirmación de la vida es muy interesante. Se que hablar de estos temas es algo muy denso, sin embargo, cuando aplicamos los pequeños consejos podemos ver como se abre la mente al conocimiento. Because of their ease and accessibility, I now use pay stubs for drawing. You can't imagine the huge collection I have now. I've even given some to loved ones; it's a way for my art to spread when it's in other hands. The first step is to make a sketch with just a pencil, using one of his most iconic photos as a reference, where he appears thoughtful.
Por su facilidad y accesibilidad, utilizo ahora las facturas de pago para dibujar, no se imaginan la gran colección que poseo ahora, a parte de ello he obsequiado algunas a mis seres queridos, es una forma de hacer que mi arte se vaya expandiendo cuando está en otras manos. El primer paso es realizado un boceto con solamente un lápiz, tomo como referencia una de sus fotos más icónicas, donde se le puede observar pensativo.

In the next step, once the sketch is complete, it's time to start using the pen. Here I'm using a very dark ink pen because I want the drawing to be well-defined from the start, not just going from the lightest areas and then darkening them. I'm playing it safe here. This means clearly establishing the boundaries of the face.
En el siguiente paso, cuando ya ha quedado realizado el boceto, toca comenzar a utilizar el bolígrafo, aquí utilizo un bolígrafo de tinta muy oscura, y es que me interesa hacer el dibujo ya bien delimitado, no solamente ir desde lo más claro y luego ir oscureciendo, aquí voy por lo seguro. Esto significa establecer claramente los límites del rostro.

Next, I move on to the thoughtful gaze, which features deep, penetrating eyes. Here, I use a pen with slightly lighter ink, perfect for creating very soft shadows that contrast with the previously drawn outlines. I also add his nose and his enormous mustache, a symbol of this thinker, which he wore extensively until the very end.
Luego voy avanzando por la mirada pensativa, la cual posee unos ojos de mirada profunda. Aquí utilizo un bolígrafo cuya tinta es algo más clara, y sirve para hacer sombras muy suaves, y que se pueden contrastar con los límites que fueron dibujados anteriormente. También voy agregando su nariz y su enorme bigote, símbolo de este pensador, el cual utilizó de forma abundante hasta el último de sus días.

"Without music, life would be a mistake," the German philosopher also said, and it's something I completely agree with. In fact, while I was making this drawing, I was listening to Richard Strauss and his classical rendition of "Thus Spoke Zarathustra." I, too, see music as part of the human experience; it's through music that we can travel to unexpected places in our imagination. Under those powerful notes, I put the finishing touches on this illustration.
"Sin música la vida sería un error" dijo tambien el filósofo alemán, y es algo en lo que etsoy totalmente de acuerdo, de hecho, cuando hacía este dibujo, escuchaba Richard Strauss y su representación de clásica de "Así habló Zaratustra" yo también concibo la música como parte de la experiencia humana, es a través de ella que podemos ir a lugaros insosprechados de nuestra imaginación. Bajo esas notas de poder le daba los útlimos toques a esta ilustración hasta finalizarla.
What did you think of the result? Have you ever read anything about Nietzsche? Well, I should mention that there's also a movie about him, based on a non-autobiographical book called "When Nietzsche Wept." It touches on some themes from his philosophy through the book's interpretation. I liked it, so I recommend it. I might write a review of it sometime.
