Last Dec, when I bought my house (this image was from the listing, so you can see the use of the wide angle lens, which I think is very disingenuous of them, cause you can't get an accurate perception of the size of things; they always look bigger), there was this mysterious door in the smaller front bedroom.
There is a more conventional closet in the corner behind the photographer.
What was odd and mysterious was, this door was SEALED UP, caulked and screwed shut, no knobs, no way to open it, BUT there was that enormous gap.
I had no idea what was behind "Door Number One" and I got a friend to cut a piece of wood that would fill that gap.
Then another 6 months went by before I finally got around to opening it.
I had known that the access to the plumbing for the shower was in there, and I knew about the brick chimney.

In the meantime, I found a door that was leaning up against the wall in the Studio, it was exactly the same size as the painted and caulked shut door, only IT had very old (painted) brass fittings.
↑This was AFTER I had cleaned the paint off this morning, and put the brass back on the door↑
There was a more traditional door knob on the front, but I wanted THIS weird handle to be seen so I swapped them around
And now, the finished (more or less) project
So now rather than having a monochrome gray door and wall, I have a white door with 80 yr old hardware (I still want to see about getting them more shiny)
I can only assume this door came from a closet that is in the middle, larger bedroom, which now has bifold doors.
I will be vacuuming out as much of the debris from in there, and I must say, while the door LOOKED like it would fit with no modifications, I DID have to move the hinges, the striker plate and hole for the latch etc... all told though, I am pleased.
Still have to close that gap again 🤣
