Intro
Da ich heute und morgen auf Dienstreise in Berlin sein werde, habe ich gestern Abend meine ersten Malversuche seit über 10 Jahren gestartet.
Ich bin ziemlich eingerostet, aber nachdem die ersten Schichten getrocknet sind sieht es besser aus als gedacht.
Ich bin gespannt auf eure Fragen und Tipps.
Intro
Since I will be today and tomorrow on a business trip in Berlin, I started yesterday evening my first painting attempts in over 10 years.
I'm pretty rusty, but after the first layers have dried it looks better than expected.
I am curious about your questions and tips.
Grüne Haut und lila Tuch
Von früher habe ich noch einige Game Color Farben von Valejo.
Für das Grün der Orks habe ich Dark Green und Goblin Green ca. 1:1 gemischt und etwas Wasser hinzugegeben, damit die Farbe nicht zu dick aufträgt und die Details verdeckt.

From earlier I still have some Game Color paints from Valejo.
For the green of the orcs I mixed Dark Green and Goblin Green about 1:1 and added a little water so that the color does not apply too thick and obscure the details.
Das einzige "Lila", welches mir zur Verfügung steht, ist zu hell. Deshalb habe ich es mit "Night Blue abgedunkelt".
Das gibt mir später genügend Möglichkeiten noch hellere Akzente zu setzen.
The only "Purple" available to me is too bright. That's why I darkened it with "Night Blue".
This gives me enough possibilities later to set even brighter accents.
Ich habe die Haut von acht meiner Orks mit einer ersten Schicht grün versehen.
Bei zwei Figuren wurde testweise der Stoff ihrer Ausrüstung lila eingefärbt.
Als Beispiel hier einer der Schwarzorks.
Ich denke das Farbmuster hat Potential. Wirklich sagen kann man es aber erst, wenn eine erste Figur nahezu komplett bemalt ist.
Was ist euer erster Eindruck?
I gave the skin of eight of my orcs a first coat of green.
For two figures, the fabric of their equipment was dyed purple as a test.
As an example, here is one of the black orcs.
I think the color pattern has potential. But I can't really tell until a first miniature is almost completely painted.
What is your first impression?
Washing der Haut
Um einen ersten Tiefeneffekt zu erzielen, soll nun die Haut meiner Orks "gewasht" werden.
Dafür habe ich zuerst mit grünem Wash von Valejo gearbeitet.
Washing the skin
To achieve a first depth effect, the skin of my orcs should now be "washed".
For this I first worked with green wash from Valejo.
Vor allem am Gesicht kann man erkennen, dass etwas mehr Farbe in die Vertiefungen gelaufen ist.
Der Effekt ist aber nicht wirklich stark.
Especially on the face, you can see that slightly more color has run into the deeper regions.
But the effect is not really strong.
Die Arme des Goblins zeigen es ebenfalls.
Anscheinend war jedoch meine Grundfarbe bereits so dunkel, dass das Wash wenig Effekt hatte.
Daher...
The arms of the goblin also show it.
Apparently, however, my base color was already so dark that the wash had little effect.
Therefore...
... probiere ich noch ein dunkleres Wash aus - nämlich Black Wash.
... I'll try out another darker wash - namely Black Wash.
Hier kommen die Konturen besser zur Geltung. Es sieht aber auch etwas schmutziger aus.
Das sollte sich aber durch die späteren Malschritte ausgleichen. Hier werde ich versuchen die höhergelegenen Stellen heller zu bemalen, um so den 3D-Effekt noch zu verstärken.
Welches Wash gefä#llt Euch besser, grün oder schwarz?
Here, the contours come into their own better. But it also looks a bit dirtier.
But that should be balanced out by the later painting steps. Here I will try to paint the higher places lighter, to strengthen the 3D effect.
Which wash do you like more? Green or black?
Erkenntnisse
Ich habe gestern Abend nur ca. 60 Minuten gemalt, weil ich eigentlich wenig Zeit hatte, aber unbedingt anfangen wollte.
Dabei ist mir aber bereits aufgefallen. dass ich Abends allein mit der Esstischlampe zu wenig Licht habe, um die Details der Miniaturen gut zu sehen. Ist das jetzt noch Haut, oder schon Rüstung - Wampe, oder Harnisch?
Auch habe ich noch nicht die richtige Viskosität meiner Farben gefunden. Das Grün am Anfang war glaube ich zu dünn. Auch brauche ich unbedingt neue Pinsel. Meine 1er und 0er haben alle keine Spitzen mehr.
Dafür hat sich die Malunterlage bewährt. Ich habe genug Platz das Team, meine Farben, Wasserbecher sowie Küchenpapier abzulegen.
Auf jeden Fall hat es wieder richtig Spaß gemacht, so wie früher. Es wird schön zu sehen sein, wenn die Miniaturen Stück für Stück eine neue Gestalt annehmen.
Findings
I painted yesterday evening only about 60 minutes, because I actually had little time, but absolutely wanted to start.
But I already noticed that I have too little light in the evening with the dining table lamp alone to see the details of the miniatures well. Is that still skin, or already armor - paunch, or armor?
Also, I haven't found the right viscosity of my colors yet. I think the green at the beginning was too thin. I also need new brushes. My 1s and 0s all have no more tips.
For this, the painting pad has proven itself. I have enough space to put the team, my colors, water cups and kitchen paper.
In any case, it was really fun again, just like before. It will be nice to see when the miniatures piece by piece take a new shape.
Feedback & Nächste Schritte
Auch wenn man noch nicht viel vom Team erkennen kann, würde mich natürlich brennend interessieren, was ihr von der geplanten Farbkombination haltet, und wie ihr die anderen Stellen an den Orks (Stiefel, Gürtel, Handschuhe, Rüstung, Haare...) bemalen würdet.
Welches Wash findet ihr besser?
Gibt es Dinge, die ihr anders machen würdet? Worauf soll ich speziell achten?

Even though you can't see much of the team yet, I would be very interested to know what you think of the planned color combination and how you would paint the other parts of the orcs (boots, belt, gloves, armor, hair...).
Which wash do you think is better?
