Hello Hive
Happy Easter morning to us all. I hope that the day meet us well and that we are having a peaceful celebration. May we truly enjoy the peace, love and salvation that Christ brings to us. It's a solemn celebration here and I am most happy that my neice also received her first holy communion today.
Her mother came around yesterday to see if we can sew her daughter a white dress to use for this occasion. All first communion participants are meant to put on white outfit for their first reception of the holy communion. I was able to fix something for her though.
While that was going on and they were waiting to get my niece dress in shape, my sister was equally not feeling comfortable in the dress she has worn yesterday. Being heavily pregnant she needs some more comfortable wears made of friendly fabrics buy she doesn't have a number of them. I had promised to sew her some new wear but was able to sew just a single one ever since.
Instead of allowing her to remain in the discomfort, I took out a piece of fabric I had at home which I knew would be more comfortable than what when was wearing.
Sewing an expectant woman's outfit doesn't necessarily have to be a demanding or elaborate design, some simple and comfortable yet comely.
I used the size of her busy and belly to determine the width of the clothes I want to cut.
I transfered her body measurements into the fabric them moved to cut the front block first.
The front piece here
Next I out the back piece as well and then looked for some white piece of fabcirs I can use to mix with the love design poccal fabrics to enhance it's looks
It won't be beautiful to sew just plain outfits, sometimes mixing these fabrics makes a whole lot of difference.
I started stitching the outfit using a white bias to turn the necklines first alongside I also created a decorative keyhole for the front block, it makes it both beautiful and easy for her to wear the dress.
Next I turned it with bias strip here
Final result of front necklines looking beautiful.
I turned the back necklines as well before moving to join the back stitches
Next I used the plain white fabric to tape the edges of the sleeves
Next was the hemming of the outfit and side stitches which completed the making of the outfit.
My sister was so surprised and happy that in less than an hour I was able to cut and sew this for here.
The dress was so comfortable that she didn't take them off for me to give them a first ironing before she went home wearing the new dress.
