Hello Hive.
Few days ago I needed some sitting stools and tables for work at home and searched for the most cheapest way to get some.
Buying ready made or imported chairs will be really expensive as those ones carries extra packaging and shipping fees so I decided to employ the labor of some artisans to help me build this.
The making process was one that taught me a huge lesson that I want to share with us.
There are different kind of woods according to their sizes and strength depending on which work you want to execute.
For making chairs and stools that requires some strength to carry the body weight of a man, we often need wood that is very thick and I heard the Carpenter calling it a 2by2 wood.
But when you need wood for cupboard and holding of very light materials clothes, your kitchen cupboard and your bedroom wardrobe, what you need is are thinner wood like the one on this table. The Capenter calls it an IVF because the surface is smooth and has been covered with sheen.
While making stools that one will need to sit on for long, you may want to consider adding foam on the stool to so that one will not feel any body ache after sitting for long.
The Capenter Initially made me the stools without adding any foam, I was disappointed and insisted on him getting the job done better before I could pay him his full wages for the work.
The initial stools without foam or any form of cover.
Here we have added the foam and a piece of colorful materials to cover the foam.
The important lessons I learnt from this is how to save extra money while trying to get some equipments for yourself.
It is either you employ the work of an artisan like this and ask for quality wood to be used for your work, monitor the process and be sure to get the best or you buy imported furniture's with extra cost
We have often believe that imported furniture's and gadgets often have the best quality without, knowing that a white man will never buy inferior items.
I made these sets of Stools and tables for 10k naira, $21.5 as against some $60 I could have used to buy the brand new sets.
But Diy often save us lots of cost if we understand the process and buy quality working materials.

I did learn alot of things while working with the carpenter and like we all know that no knowledge is a waste been exposed to different kinds of knowledge from different field is really a privileged.
Although not all artisans are skilled good in making these furniture, one has to be careful of whoever we want to employ.
After all the nailing and hammering of the legs and the flat too I have these brand new set of stools and chair.
Lack of power supply causes a set back where we couldn't file the woods to smoothing the legs. But this is good enough for use already.
With this I am glad that I could get some brand new set of cheaper sewing tables and chairs following a diy process. Thanks for stopping by.
