Hey DIYers! I have a very easy project today that even renters can do. So often renters feel like they can't make a space their own, because they are afraid of having to pay a damage fee if they do something like paint the walls a different color. So it's nice to find little things that you can totally personalize as you like but then put back when you move out and not deal with any fees!

An easy way to do this is to change out the light switch covers to something more fun, since all it entails is a couple of screws. You just have to be sure to keep the landlord's switch cover so you can put it back when you move out.

I had found an old lightswitch cover while I was cleaning out some boxes from my mom's attic that were mine, so since I had a cracked switch in the apartment anyway (yes, it was that way when I moved in), I decided to swap it out (and I kept the landlord's switch in a closet).

I discovered only when I took it off that they hadn't actually changed out the lightswitches themselves, just the cover. I had thought the toggle part was a whole new switch, but no, the old switch is still underneath it! It's just a cover that slides up and down, pushing the old switch. That explains why it's so clicky, lol. You can see the crack on the top - it looks like they screwed in the screw too tightly on the light plastic cover.

So here is my new-old switch cover, which is metal and decorated. I used the same screws as they had on their cover, so I don't have to worry about losing screws later. Easy peasy lemon squeezy, a personal touch in a rented apartment with no worries about fees.

I only have the one cover for now, but that's cool as it replaced the only cover that was cracked. Maybe over time I'll pick out some more fun covers, but I'm content with this one in my bedroom. :)
