Last weekend we went to drive up to Melbourne and there was an awful noise coming from the engine of my van, causing it to go into limp mode. We limped off the highway and to a service station we know where the mechanic there is really nice. He couldn't help - we didn't expect him to - except to give us some tape and cable ties to hold the turbo hose together so we could get home.
I have to say I love my bush mechanic husband. He's a bit of a genius with cars, though he's self taught and not registered as a mechanic. Give him an old engine and he'll have it going in no time. Since I've known him, his skill level has improved incredibly, learning as he goes. So whilst this fix looks dodgy, I don't think anyone else could do such a job to make the van work, and even the mechanic was impressed.
This means we only have one fully working car on the road, Jamie's Defender. The old Series is in our shed getting a rebuilt gearbox and a new clutch. The Peugot is what I'd call 'fucked' and Jamie can't fix it because he doesnt have time, and I wont let him put it in for fixing as it'll cost thousands we don't have.
Everything seems to be breaking on us all at once, just when we need the money to travel and take a year off. We were doing so well there for a bit. My oven is broken, we need a new back door, the bathrooms need fixing - the list seems endless.
Even or trusty wheelbarrow broke, one of the arms rusting through.
How did we fix it?
With a wooden garden stake and cable ties.
Pity we can't fix the oven like that.
With Love,
