Por aquí todos se enfermaron así que no salimos de casa, pero he aprovechado el tiempo para hacer algunas cositas y una de ellas es esta transformación que les comparto el día de hoy de un envase plástico en una maceta súper linda que no solo le da cobijo a mi plantita de cintas, sino que decora mi hogar.
Hello, Hive community! I hope you’re all doing well and that you’ve been able to enjoy the bank holidays. Everyone here has been ill, so we haven’t left the house, but I’ve made the most of the time to do a few little things – and one of them is this transformation I’m sharing with you today: turning a plastic container into a really lovely plant pot that not only provides a home for my little ribbon plant, but also decorates my home.
Si mal no recuerdo en este envase vinieron unos repuestos del carro, y había decido guardarlo para usarlo en algún proyecto y finalmente llegó la hora de darle una nueva oportunidad de ser útil, y como estaba necesitando una maceta para una matita de cinta que me regalaría mi mamá me puse manos a la obra, y le di un cambio del cielo a la tierra a este envase plástico y solo necesité pintura a la tiza casera, un poco de lana y tres tornillos, y ahora les cuento cómo lo hice.
If I remember correctly, this box contained some spare parts for the car, and I’d decided to keep it to use in a project. The time finally came to give it a new lease of life, and as I needed a pot for a little ribbon plant my mum was giving me, I got to work. I gave this plastic container a complete makeover, and all I needed was some homemade chalk paint, a bit of wool and three screws. Now I’ll tell you how I did it.

Para la transformación de este envase en una maceta decidí utilizar pintura a la tiza para darle un poco de textura y un acabado diferente, pero como no tenía en casa de la comercial, hice la mía, y para esto solo rallé bien finita dos cucharadas grandes de tiza, agregué pintura blanca y solo un poquito de agua para aligerar la mezcla, ya que quería crear zonas con textura.
To turn this container into a plant pot, I decided to use chalk paint to give it a bit of texture and a unique finish. However, as I didn’t have any shop-bought chalk paint at home, I made my own. To do this, I simply grated two heaped tablespoons of chalk very finely, added white paint and just a little water to thin the mixture, as I wanted to create textured areas.
Una vez lista la pintura de tiza, limpié muy bien el envase y con ayuda de un clavo caliente le hice tres agujeros alrededor en los que luego de pintarlo le pondría unos tornillos a modo de decoración, y en este punto estamos listos para comenzar a pintar, y para esto decidí utilizar una esponja, y esto lo hice por dos motivos: el primero es que no me dejaría marcas de brochazos, y por otro lado con ella podría crear la textura que estaba buscando.
Para realizar este trabajo solo tenía que dar un toque con la esponja en la pintura sin sumergirla por completo, solo lo necesario para tomar algo de pintura, y lo siguiente es dar toques sobre la superficie, cubriendo todo nuestro envase con una primera capa.
Once the chalk paint was ready, I cleaned the container thoroughly and, using a hot nail, made three holes around the edge; after painting it, I would insert some screws into these as decoration. At this point, we’re ready to start painting, and for this I decided to use a sponge, and I did this for two reasons: firstly, it wouldn’t leave brush marks, and secondly, it would allow me to create the texture I was looking for.
To do this, I simply had to dab the sponge into the paint without submerging it completely – just enough to pick up a little paint – and then dab it onto the surface, covering the whole container with a first coat.
Como pueden ver hay unas partes con relieve, y esto lo logro gracias a la tiza y a que al momento de transferir la pintura al envase no hago mucha presión en esa zona y queda de esta forma.
En este punto la dejamos secar bien y damos una segunda capa de pintura y me aseguro de dar algunos toques de relieve donde estaba faltando, hasta cubrir por completo la superficie.
As you can see, there are some raised areas, and I achieve this by using chalk and, when transferring the paint to the container, not applying too much pressure in that area, which leaves it looking like this.
At this stage, we leave it to dry thoroughly and apply a second coat of paint, making sure to add a few touches of texture where it was missing, until the surface is completely covered.
Una vez que ha secado bien, con un pincel procedo a pintar la parte de la rosca del envase, para luego cubrirla con una cadeneta de lana hecha a crochet.
Once it has dried thoroughly, I use a paintbrush to paint the screw-top part of the container, and then cover it with a crocheted wool chain.
Una vez secó todo el borde, luego de las dos capas llegó el momento de cubrir la rosca del envase con la cadeneta tejida, y para esto nos ayudamos con la pistola de silicón caliente, fijándola muy bien por todo el borde.
Once the entire rim had dried, after applying the two coats, it was time to cover the rim of the container with the crocheted chain; to do this, we used a hot glue gun, securing it firmly all around the rim.
El siguiente paso fue colocar los tornillos, y para esto utilizamos un destornillador de estrías y los ubicamos en su lugar, y de esta forma hemos transformado un envase plástico en una preciosa maceta que sirve ahora para exhibir en mi repisa esta preciosa planta de cintas que le da mucha vida al comedor y que es parte de la transformación que quiero hacer en este espacio.
The next step was to insert the screws; to do this, we used a slotted screwdriver to secure them in place. And just like that, we’ve transformed a plastic container into a beautiful plant pot, which now sits on my shelf displaying this lovely ribbon plant. It really brings the dining room to life and is part of the makeover I’m planning for this space.
Como pueden ver es un trabajo bastante sencillo de hacer y el resultado es muy lindo.
As you can see, it’s quite a simple project and the result is really lovely.
