Hack of the day: "Use packaging to make templates" / Hack del día: "Aprovecha el Packaging para hacer plantillas"

Today I'm bringing you a Creative Hack that will change the way you see shopping. It's about learning to analyze and reuse commercial packaging to create your own templates. Many containers quickly end up in the trash after we've consumed their contents, but we can pay attention to those containers whose shapes and user experience we really liked, keep them clean, analyze their design, and create a template from that model.

I made this gift box for my nephew, as I wanted to give him a small gift with some treats, stickers, and a keychain, all with an astronaut theme. So, the gift box I'm going to make will also have this theme. I made it with cardstock printed with a planet design. The box design is from the packaging of a very famous bakery here in my city, which I copied to make my template... Welcome!

Hoy te traigo un **Hack Creativo que cambiará tu forma de ver las compras**. Se trata de aprender a analizar y aprovechar los empaques comerciales o Packaging,  para extraer nuestras propias plantillas. Y es que muchos envases terminan rápidamente en la basura, luego que consumimos su contenido, pero podemos prestar atención a esos envases cuyas formas y experiencia de uso nos gustaron mucho, preservarlos limpios, analizar su diseño y sacar la plantilla de ese modelo.

Esta Caja de Regalo la hice para mi sobrino, ya que quiero regalarle un pequeño detalle con algunas chucherías, stickers y un llavero, todo con temática de Astronauta, así que la Caja de Regalos que voy a realizar también será con esta temática, la hice con una cartulina estampada con diseño de planetas. El diseño de la caja, es del Packaging de una Pastelería muy famosa aquí en la ciudad donde vivo, que la cloné para hacer mi plantilla... Bienvenidos.

As I mentioned, I had this box saved, which was from a pastry shop. It's a one-piece, assemble-it-yourself design, and I particularly liked the size, depth, and capacity; they were perfect to have as a template, which I know I'll use easily and quickly whenever I need a box.

Como les mencioné tenía guardada esta caja que era de un dulce de pastelería, se trata de un diseño de una sola pieza, armable, y particularmente me gustó mucho el tamaño, la profundidad de la caja y la capacidad eran perfectas para tenerla como una plantilla, que se que utilizaré de forma fácil y rápida cuando quiera una caja.

I had the box stored clean, I disassembled it and began to measure each side of the entire design, mainly to analyze it and give it the personality of a template. I thought about cloning it in cardboard, but decided to keep it with this material which is of very good quality.

La caja la tenía guardada limpia, la desarmé y comencé a medir cada lado del todo el diseño, principalmente para analizarla y darle la personalidad de una plantilla, pensaba clonarla en cartón, pero decidí mantenerla con este material que es de muy  buena calidad.

I got the material for the box from this pad of various materials, which had a planet design, perfect for the concept I wanted to work with. The cardstock has vibrant colors and yellow on the back, so it was ideal since I wouldn't need to decorate the inside of the box; this material provided everything I needed.

On the back, the yellow side, I copied the pattern from the packaging, simply tracing around it with a pen.

El material de la caja lo tomé de este block de varios materiales, que tenía un diseño de planetas, ideal para el concepto que quería manejar. La cartulina tiene colores vibrantes y por su reverso tiene el color amarillo, así que fue perfecto ya que no iba a requerir decorar el interior de la caja, dado que este material me lo dio todo.

Por el reverso, el lado amarillo copié el patrón del Packaging, simplemente pasando por todo el alrededor el bolígrafo. 

I cut all around, the box design was very noticeable.

Recorté por todo el alrededor, el diseño de la caja se notaba muy bien.

I made the necessary folds using an awl or any pointed tool that doesn't cut, because I'm only going to score the lines with the awl and then fold each piece.

It's also important to carefully crease each fold, which can be done with the back of scissors or any other tool.

Realicé los doblez necesarios, con un punzón o cualquier herramienta que tenga punta pero que no corte, porque solo voy a pasar el punzón para marcar y seguidamente doblar cada pieza.

Es importante también, perfilar bien cada doblez, puede ser con el reverso de la tijera o cualquier otra herramienta.

Once I had all the folds made, I assembled the box, but first I made sure the design worked. To do this, I assembled it and secured it with snap fasteners.

Although the packaging design is meant to be assembled, I decided to assemble and glue this particular box so it could be used as a box later. I didn't think it was necessary to be able to disassemble it, so I glued it with hot glue.

Una vez que tengo todos los doblez hecho, armo la caja, pero primero me aseguro bien que funcione el diseño, para esto la armé y fijé con clips de presión.

Aunque el diseño del Packaging es armable, decidí que esta caja la iba a armar y pegar, para que sea usada como tal posteriormente, no consideré necesario tener la posibilidad de desarmarla, así que la pegué con silicón caliente. 

An additional and personal touch was to place a piece of tape, folded and glued to the lid, making it even easier to open.

Un detalle adicional y personal fue colocar un trozo de cinta, doblada y pegada en la parte de la tapa, de manera que sea aún más fácil de abrir. 

To personalize it even more and make it more fun, I printed some astronaut figures and my nephew's name on self-adhesive photo paper to stick on the inside and make it more fun, and this addition was really important and added a lot to the design.

Para personalizar aún más y hacerla más divertida, imprimí algunos figuras de astronautas y el nombre de mi sobrino, con papel fotográfico autoadhesivo, para pegarlos en la parte interna y hacerla más divertida, y de verdad que este complemento fue muy importante y sumó mucho al diseño.

This is what the box looks like with the sweets or treats inside; it holds quite a few things, and as you can see, the inside of the lid looks great with the decoration I made.

Así luce la caja con los dulces o chucherías adentro, carga bastante cositas, y como pueden ver la parte interna de la tapa quedó genial con la decoración que le hice,

Here's the original design or packaging and my gift box. I think the resource utilization was great; now I have a template I can use to quickly make a gift box whenever I need it.

Aquí te dejo el diseño o Packaging original y mi Caja de Regalo, pienso que el aprovechamiento de recursos fue genial, ahora tengo esa plantilla que puedo sacar y  realizar rápidamente una caja de regalo en el momento que la necesite.
