Step by step to make a unique and super chic wallet 🧵 (Eng-Esp)

I've started this January with incredible energy and a host of projects I can't wait to see come to fruition. This year, my goal is to let my creativity take the lead and share my greatest passion with you: the world of crafts and sewing. There's nothing more motivating than transforming an idea into something tangible, and I'm so excited about the opportunity HIVE gives us to showcase our creative process, both to teach and to learn together as a community.

For this first Project of 2026, I wanted to make a women's wallet with a floral design. It's an organizer for cards or IDs and has a compartment for bills. Here's the step-by-step tutorial... Welcome!

He arrancado este enero con una energía increíble y llena de proyectos que ya quiero ver materializados. Este año mi meta es dejar que la creatividad tome el mando y compartir con ustedes mi mayor pasión, que es el mundo de las manualidades y la costura. No hay nada más motivador que transformar una idea en algo que puedes tocar, y me emociona mucho la oportunidad que nos da HIVE para mostrar nuestro proceso de nuestras creaciones para enseñar y también para aprender en comunidad.

Para este primero Proyecto 2026, he querido realizar una cartera para mujer, con diseño floral, que se trata de un organizador para nuestras tarjetas o credenciales, y un compartimiento para los billetes, a continuación les comparto el paso a paso... Bienvenidos.

I still had some of the solid-color canvas left over, but I only had a scrap of the floral print canvas from previous projects, so to make the most of it, I designed a combination of both.

The first thing I did was cut two rectangles measuring 22cm x 12cm, one from the solid-color canvas and the other from the print. These will be the outer and inner parts of this wallet, which I'm just going to set aside for now, since I'm going to assemble the actual organizer section.

De la loneta unicolor aún disponía de alguna cantidad, sin embargo de la loneta estampada con estilo floral, solo tenía un retazo de proyectos anteriores, así que para aprovecharlo diseñé combinando ambos.

Lo primero que hice fue cortar dos rectángulos que miden 22cms x 12cms, uno en loneta unicolor y otro en la estampada, ellos serán la parte externa e interna de esta billetera, que por ahora simplemente voy a reservar, ya que voy a armar la parte del organizador propiamente dicho.

To hold the cards, I used two pieces of solid-color canvas and one piece of patterned canvas. They were all 22 cm long, but one was taller than the other. I adjusted this to accommodate the size of the cards or IDs.

I sewed a straight stitch along the top edge of both pieces, then folded them over to give the compartments a neater finish. Next, I sewed the two pieces together with a straight stitch around the edges and a center seam to divide the compartments.

Then, I placed another patterned piece of the same length but slightly taller underneath, attaching it to the first piece only at the sides and bottom. This piece doesn't have a divider because it will form the space for the bills.

Para colocar las tarjetas utilicé dos piezas en loneta unicolor y otra en estampada, medirían lo mismo de largo 22cms, pero de alto una sería más alta que la otra. Esto lo hice considerando el tamaño de las tarjetas o credenciales.

Pasé una costura recta en la parte superior de ambas piezas, un doblez para darle mejor acabado a estos compartimientos. Luego, uní ambas piezas con costura recta alrededor y una costura central para dividir los espacios.

Luego, otra pieza en estampada del mismo largo pero un poco más alta, la coloqué debajo y uní a la pieza anterior solo por laterales y abajo, esta pieza no lleva división ya que en ella se formará el espacio para los billetes.

This is how the three pieces look joined, with the combined color and print design. Now I'm placing the first piece I set aside at the beginning, the solid-color one, underneath; this will be the inside of the wallet.

Before joining them, I'm going to prepare two functional elements. Using a 9cm x 5cm piece of printed canvas, I folded it over itself and sewed around the edges; this piece will be the wallet's clasp.

Así lucen las 3 piezas unidas con el diseño combinado de color y estampado. ahora coloco debajo la primera pieza que había reservado al principio, la unicolor, que será la parte interna de la billetera.

Antes de unir voy a preparar dos elementos funcionales. Con un trozo de loneta estampada de 9cms x 5cms, doble sobre sí misma y cosí alrededor, esta pieza será el broche de la billetera.

The other piece is much smaller, 5cm x 3cm. I simply cut and folded it; there's no need to sew it because it won't open or lose its shape. This will be a small loop for hanging a keychain or some decorative item, something that will be part of the design and make it look more eye-catching.

Now, I'll position these last two pieces I prepared as shown in the images, secure them with snap fasteners, and then sew them.

I'm going to place the outer part I prepared initially, right sides together, on the entire inside of the organizer. But first, I'll attach a plastic snap fastener. This could be Velcro, but I prefer a snap.

La otra pieza es bastante más pequeña, de 5cms x 3cms, ésta simplemente la corté y doblé, no es necesario coserla porque no se va a abrir o perder su forma. Ésta será un pequeño aro para colgar un llavero o algún elemento decorativo, que forme parte del diseño y lo haga lucir más vistoso.

Ahora si, estas dos últimas piezas que preparé las ubico como se ve en las imágenes, fijo con clips de presión, y luego coso.

La parte externa que había preparado inicialmente, la voy a colocar derecho con derecho a toda la parte del organizador y parte interna. Pero antes, le coloco un broche plástico de presión, esto pudiera ser con velcro, pero me gusta más con broche.

Okay, with everything in place and secured with snap fasteners, I sew a seam all around, leaving a small opening where I'll turn the wallet right side out.

I turn it right side out through that opening and sew a topstitch around the edge, making sure the opening I left is securely closed.

Bien, con todo bien ubicado y fijado con clips de presión, paso una costura por todo el alrededor, dejando un espacio libre de costura por donde voltearé la billetera.

La volteo por ese espacio y realizo una costura de repise alrededor, garantizando que se cierre bien el espacio que había dejado libre.

All that's left is to attach the other plastic snap to the strip I used to open and close the wallet. Considering the snap's location on the outside, I mark it to ensure it's in the exact same spot, attach the snap, and check that it works properly.

Lo que falta es colocar el otro broche plástico de presión, en la tira que había dispuesto para abrir y cerrar la billetera. Considerando la ubicación del broche en la parte externa, marco para que quede exactamente en el mismo lugar, coloco el broche y compruebo que funcione bien.

I added the decorative element; it's optional, but I like it because it adds a lot of cheer and personality to the wallet. The snap closure looks great, and it works really well because I chose a color that goes with everything.

El elemento decorativo lo coloqué, esto es opcional pero me gusta porque le aporta mucha alegría y personalidad a la billetera. El sistema de broche de presión para abrir y cerrar se ve genial, y luce muy bien ya que elegí un color que funcionaba muy bien con todo.

As you can see, the cards fit very well, and there's even room for more in the same compartment. The bill pocket is very convenient for inserting and removing bills, and there's plenty of space inside.

Aquí pueden ver las tarjetas quedan muy bien, incluso hay espacio para colocar otras en el mismo compartimiento. El bolsillo para los billetes que muy cómodo para introducirlos o sacarlos, y también quedan con un espacio cómodo.

The plastic snap closure system works very well. This system is a significant difference compared to men's wallets, but I do include it for women because we carry our wallets or purses in our handbags, so the extra bulk isn't a problem.

The snap closure system provides greater security, especially for our cards or IDs, which won't fall out with the movement of our belongings inside the bag.

El sistema de broches plásticos de presión funciona muy bien. Este sistema es una marcada diferencia con las billetera de hombres, pero para mujer si lo coloco porque nosotras llevamos el billetera o cartera en el bolso, así que más volumen no molesta.

El sistema de broche da más seguridad sobre todo a nuestras tarjetas o credenciales, que no se saldrán con el movimiento de nuestras cosas dentro del bolso.
