Catastrophe struck last night as we were making a fire to make food - South African Braai and the braai collapsed!
I was actually not THAT surprised. The braai had been rusting and sagging for a while now. I knew that it was only a matter of time before the whole thing would collapse.
In fact, I had been patching it by adding plates of galvanised sheet metal into the the braai bottom to cover the holes.
Lat night however, it was the straws that broke the camel's back and the whole thing collapsed in, dropping the load of burning logs and ash onto the sandy floor.
Again, a premeditated move by me: Clearing the braai area of all grass and putting stones and sand underneath it.
After we move the braai to one side on the grass, we took bricks from the garden and built two little walls, put the logs together again and fanned them a bit and the fire blaze merrily once more!
A loose braai grid was used and the meat was braaied in any case! A quick solve!
Now... for a more permanent solution, I would like to build a new braai.
I COULD get a new metal pan and remake that old braai. But I would really like to build a little brick braai instead. So that is what I will do. I will just need to see how I will get enough bricks to build a big enough braai!
Watch this space as I may very well upcycle my way there!
