Our second Caturday with Mojo
A week ago, I was proud to publish something about our cat Mojo who we rescued from the streets a few days before. I plan on writing about Mojo every Saturday. It's funny because we referred to Mojo as a female, then thought it's defo a boy, but now we are in doubt again, so for now I will just refer to Mojo as a him, until we know 100% certain after seeing a vet. We haven't done so yet because we want Mojo to feel totally comfortable with us first and as soon as we know it will be doable to move him in the carrier without adding too much stress, we will go to see the vet and also ask when it's best to make an appointment to help him as we don't know his age and when it's most appropriate.
The past days he became very playful
He already discovered his tail last week and chased it for a while, but did not have much attention for the cat toys we bought. What we accidentally discovered was that he goes in full play-mode when he finds a little piece of paper. One fell on the ground and he did not leave the opportunity unused to chase it around. It was great fun to watch. Not only did he give us some good "cat-tv" during the evenings, but he also became more confident to come closer to us without being spooked if we move our leg or something like that.
Yesterday he made a huge step forward
During the morning my daughter sat on the couch and I sat on the dining table chair, Mojo saw a paper ball in the middle of the room on the floor as we now have some laying around on purpose to trigger him, and he did not think twice, he came from under the closet and started playing. He was running through the full room back and forward and we enjoyed watching it. At some point, the paper landed next to my foot and I assumed he'd not come to get it. Thankfully, I gave it a few seconds before moving to grab it for him because he didn't even think twice and came to me. I didn't look at him directly to not spook him, he accidentally bumped into my leg with his back as he ran towards the paper, then looked at me, sniffed my leg and touched my foot to grab the paper. I knew we were getting closer to becoming true friends, I felt like a proud cat-mama!
He's more comfortable
We see he's more relaxed by watching the way he sleeps and the fact that he comes to play more often not only in the evening. On top of that, he stopped meowing for his family and friends after just 2 nights keeping us awake. During these two first nights, he tried to jump through the window several times too, hanging on the frame for a bit if he could grab it. He also landed in the curtains twice but with some corrections from our side, he soon learned this was not what the curtains are meant for. The next day, he discovered how to use the scratching pole and now it seems that the scratches on other surfaces are very incidental, quickly corrected by us and understood by him. I think this little furry friend is doing great, and we will not have to wait much longer before one of us will be able to get closer or even allowed to pet him. He's truly missing out on some good petting, and I bet he will enjoy it once he finds out that these hoomans of him are quite good at it!
Totally passed out
Above you can see how he was totally passed out after a full hour playtime with some pieces of paper. I managed to get a nice video of him before this happened, but I didn't know where to upload it to add it to this post because I never use video content in my blogs. I will have to share that one another time. I love seeing him all comfortable like this because it means he's being more vulnerable around us showing his belly instead of protecting himself during his sleep. We are making progress with him every day and we are so happy that we took him home with us, he's already a part of our family and we can't imagine our days without him.
His siblings are still outside
Although two days ago I thought they caught all the kittens as I only saw mama cat there, yesterday my boyfriend and daughter went to check it and found all the kittens as well as mama cat and some others. When we were there the other morning, they were probably sleeping out of our sight. They brought some decent kitten food to them and I plan on doing this daily now that I know they are still there. I would hate to find out they didn't make it due to not being fed or having access to water. Thankfully the neighbors are looking out for them as well, so fingers crossed these little fur balls will be ok. In about a week, I hope to be passing that spot daily and it will be easier to bring some food on my way back.
Happy Caturday!
