Have you ever drank coffee? I'm sure you've tasted coffee once in your life, but have you ever drank coffee leaves? Hmm, it's an interesting thing to look at and this is my first time consuming it, I was a little panicked but my curiosity overcame my fear about this coffee leaf drink. The famous name of this drink is "Kawa daun" meaning coffee leaves. Before I tell all of you further, I want to ask whether my knowledge about this coffee is very limited or can coffee leaves be processed into a much better alternative drink than coffee itself? Is there anyone in your country who uses coffee leaves as a substitute for coffee?
In the past, during the colonial era in Indonesia, especially the province of West Sumatra, all natural resources were confiscated by the colonialists, including coffee beans. People who wanted to enjoy coffee were not allowed, so the idea arose to process coffee leaves as a substitute for coffee beans. and that is a glimpse of the history of these coffee leaves replacing coffee beans in West Sumatra. And not only that, this is my first experience drinking this.
There are so many small cafes that sell this drink and my choice fell on a roadside cafe that offers views of Mount Merapi, West Sumatra.
This café is very simple, there are not many menus here, only simple snacks in the form of various kinds of fried foods and tea and the mainstay is Kawah Daun or coffee leaf drinks. This coffee leaf drink also consists of various kinds, namely ginger coffee leaf drink, original coffee leaf drink and ginger milk coffee leaf drink and I myself chose the milk ginger coffee leaf drink. And you know what makes this unique is that the drinks here are served in bowls made from coconut shells and then the base is bamboo so that the coconut shell remains balanced. The rural atmosphere is very thick here. And initially I wanted to try to find out how the coffee leaves were processed but it turned out I couldn't find out because it was a secret in their kitchen. And the price offered for this drink is Rp. 8,000. It's very cheap if you just bring 2 U$ dollars to this place then you can enjoy coffee leaf drinks and various kinds of fried foods here, so are you interested in trying this drink?
Come visit West Sumatra and thank you for reading my post. if you visit West Sumatra try the "Kawa Daun" drink, greetings from me Tomidiwirja, Indonesia
