The rainy season is a bit annoying for the kite lovers. The rainy season this year is a little longer than previous years. Even though the rainy season is over now, the sky is still full of clouds every day. It rained a lot all morning. As soon as I woke up and got ready to go to the office, it was raining outside, so I had to wait for the rain to stop. I looked at the children and saw that they were sleeping peacefully. One of the advantages of childhood is that they are always tension free. They don't have to worry about anything but reading. Although when I was a child I used to think growing up would be all happiness. And today, after growing up, I think childhood time was the happiest. Jumping into the pond without any hesitation, playing football in the rain, flying a kite, all those were enjoyable. When I think of flying a kite, a different kind of excitement works in my mind. You will find few people in our country who didn’t fly a kite in his childhood with Latai(a large reel on which thread is wound).
In addition to flying kites every day in our village, there was a kite festival once a year. The rule of this competition is that the winner will be the one who would cut as many kite threads compared to the other contestants. Competitors would come from many villages to fly kites. This was a wonderful environment. A village fair was held besides this competition and that fair lasted for three days.
Due to this festival, strong preparations were going on among the contestants. The most notable and important of these preparations was the sharpening of yarn. The sharper the thread, the more probability to win the game. The sharper the thread, the more kites one can cut. So everyone tried to use different methods to sharpen threads. While sharpening the thread, here is no counting how many times I cut my hand. This is because we used glass powder to sharpen yarn. Various glass objects were broken into powder. The glass powder was then mixed with glue and put a layer on the thread. Then it was threaded on the Latai.
Then began the process of making kites. There was a healthy competition between us who can make beautiful kites. Different colored paper was used to make kites. Nowadays, although children do not make kites, there are various colorful kites available in the shops.
Latai, the main driver of kite flying was made of bamboo. Although this task was quite difficult, we always tried to make it by ourselves.
There were three groups of people during the kite festival. The first group was the participating team, the second group was the spectators and the third group was the ones who ran after the kites. As soon as a competitor cuts a kite, everyone would run to catch it. Sometimes few kites were stuck in trees or electric wires. Visitors clapped and enjoyed the festival.
Seeing a group of children flying kites on the rooftop yesterday afternoon reminded me of this childhood story. Flying a kite is a pure pleasure. Today's children are always busy with computer, mobile and games. It would not be a bad idea to introduce our kids with the traditional games and let them play under the open sky. However, enjoyed the evening with the kids.
Thanks.
