I'm listening to an instrumental version of Metallica's Unforgiven as I sit down to write this quick post. This is not a typical metal version, it's a medieval version. Reminds me of simpler times. Sometimes with all the junk that fills our head, simpler memories is exactly what we need to reminisce :)
I consider myself a very sentimental person...I put on a facade to hide this fact at times. I don't know why I do that, but I do...so much so that I am known to be a living rock. And yet I still have pieces of rocks I used to collect with my brother when we were kids :) We don't see each other much these days, we rarely talk...less than we should at least. And I have no idea why. Makes me wish we collected a few more rocks together.
I am trying to make more of an effort with my sister's kids, no fake facades.
The two kids collabed on this one
And yet it's been slightly over a month I last visited them. So when my sister decided to have a bunch of family over from both sides together today...it was the getaway I much needed. I was in a slumped state, mentally exhausted with all the countless hours divulging into the infectious disease notes....watching the market taking losses left and right...I could really use a break!
My two nieces are the first kids of the next gen in the entire family from both sides...my sister being the eldest on our side, my brother in law being the eldest on their side of the family. So if you're someone from the subcontinent you can imagine how much everyone pampers the two!
When we reached a bit late today, as you'd expected they were already surrounded by what seemed like the entire city and a supermarket of chocolates...pringles and barbie dolls. I could hardly see them. As I washed my hands (mandatory covid-19 protocol, we're a family of doctors on both sides LOL), I greeted my sister's in laws.
And that's all that was needed for me to turn into the Pied Piper of Hamelin! The kids threw aside the lure of chocolates and new toys....and all the attention...the elder probably kicked a few who tried to tell her to slow down and before I knew it I was almost toppling over with one jumping on each of my arms.
Made my day, made my week, made my month :)
And I could hear my sister's mother in law telling to the rest of the audience, তোঁয়ারার বেজ্ঞুনের দিন শেষ, ইতারার বড় মামা আই গিয়ে meaning "All of your time is over, their uncle is here!"
