Football is one of the sports that is loved and watched worldwide. Hardly will you find people who are not interested in football.
It is a game that connects us all. It is a universal language. It compromises of different individuals whose their individualism matter less when they are on the field of play as a team.
It is also a job for professional footballers and where they get paid and derive their joy. So the stoppage of it was a blow to football lovers but a huge blow to them because it stops them from doing that which they love most (playing football).
While the covid-19 pandemic struck the world really hard in March, it stopped many things. Economy, business, tourism and life generally stopped.
We were first sent into hiding with lockdown implemented by government. After the lockdown, we started resuming back to life. This has not been a rosy event. Life has started but not fully.
Many things are still pending. Business are suffering from the reality. Many have been laid off. Some received messages about pay cut. In some companies, only 75% percent of employees are working.
Bottom line, it has never been easy and life has never been the same again. Whether things will return fully back to normal is yet to be seen. Perhaps, when there is a vaccine, things will turn around.
Many countries have now relaxed their lockdown rules. Nigeria will fully relax her lockdown with few exceptions on 19th of this month.
Religious services will commence next week in Nigeria and i don't think it is the right thing to do.
Till this moment, cases are still increasing on daily basis which means the threat is still out there.
Perhaps, the government was thinking about the low fatality rate. But we need to consider that life is very important and should be protected.
Starting services right now looks early for me. I think it needs to still remain on hold while we continue virtual services like we've been doing since covid-19 announced itself.
The good mews out there, however, is the one about footballing activities starting tomorrow 11th of June, 2020!
I am excited about this because spectators are not allowed to attend live matches. We can only watch live from our various homes which minimizes our chance of getting the virus.
It will also help the players and reduce their chance of contracting the virus.
Matches will start in Spain with La Liga scheduled to resume tomorrow with first match being between Sevilla amd Real Betis.
We are even more excited with English Premier League starting next week.
While these matches might look boring to the players because spectators make football matches fun, it would be awesome for us who would be watching from home.
I can't wait for that to start while i still fear what the outcome would be in Nigeria with services starting fully next week.
We can only hope for the best and stay safe. Try follow the laid down procedures and take good care of yourself and your family.
One love!
