Have you ever felt that the day seems too long? Almost never-ending?
You keep checking the clock on your phone or the wristwatch - when you feel that it's been 20 minutes but in reality, it's barely been 7. You groan out in frustration thinking Why is this clock moving so damn slow? Usually my Thursdays feel that way. Why do you ask? It's the last working day of the week and I'll be a liar if I tell you I don't need a weekend. Heck, everyone needs a weekend.
You know, not-so-surprisingly, Thursdays are usually quiet and less workload. Even some colleagues get off from work early to get home. Yes, I know this raises a few questions. The thing is, the majority of these people have families outside of town in other smaller towns or rural areas - some even have families far away. They're in staying the city where cheaper accommodations are available; often rent sharing with even 5 or 6 people. And Thursday is the day when they usually try to get off around lunch hour so they can take a quick bus to their home and see their families as soon as they can.
Hmm, Going Home. Whether it's chaotic or quiet, everyone wants to go home. Even a lengthy commute is bearable to them if only they get to spend few hours with their loved ones. Often it surprises me that they'd never miss a week to go home and come back to the office on Saturday. Some of my colleagues even say that their kids turn their house upside down when they'd be coming back to the city - crying, screaming they beg their fathers to either stay or to bring the children to the city. And yet, week after week the fathers manage to leave their families behind and drown themselves at work. Is it worth it? I guess so. All of them are making sacrifices for each other.
And again, I go back to looking at the clock. Tik, tik, tik, tik.
While I was writing about it, my office was already 70% vacant, along with two of my colleagues already went to deal with some personal matter and another would be leaving as well. Well, I know I'm not going to be posting it in the afternoon and might as well be late at night when I finish this. Yes, it will be very very late at night since I'll take a long nap right after I get home. This has been a really long week since things have just started to go back to how it was before lockdown. The schools have opened, although the hours are still quite short, the offices went back to regular hours (at least mine did). So, past me is waiting for the office to end and making small talks with remaining colleagues.
It's almost mid-October and believe me many are making early plans about where to go. We won't get long holidays but some of us have been diligent and saved almost all of our leaves for December. Yes, everyone plans to go out of town to other beautiful places - now, I don't need to tell you why they do that. I am looking forward to having a few days off as well, so let's see where it leads to. Right now, my focus is to go home and have a nap then post then go to sleep and wake up at least 10 hours later. I love my Fridays.
I hate Saturdays as much as you hate Mondays - another thing I hate would be waking up in the morning. I'm much more of an owl - stay wide awake at night and sleep during the day but my cruel fate had led me to stay up till late hours at night and be groggy at the office most days. Luckily today isn't one of the days where I'm groggy and irritated.
Home is calling out to me.
