You can be whoever you want (just not that, nor that, nor that) - and the countless times we hear that. Even though you suit up for Halloween, that’s not you for the next 364 days, are you? Nor you can single out to be something unique every day, that seems childish, or perhaps that’s what you really want but you can’t. For example, I can’t be a Kingfisher if I prefer but I can be the head of my department if I work hard enough for the coming 6 years; sounds doable.

When I was in Class - 2 and I missed Sports Day at my school. Come to think of it, I never went to the Sports Day till I was in Middle School and to tell you the truth, the has never held that much excitement to me. The competitions would always be held days before the ceremony and I’ll be participating in them, sometimes win too; so, I was the kid who didn’t care about trophies and will just play on and on. All the girls in their disarrayed uniforms and pigtails, running around in the playing fields, shoes and socks all mixed up; it was a world of fun for a kid. So, I usually thought Sports Days were boring because all I could assume was they just hand out prizes and that didn’t sound exciting at all. At that time, I didn’t know there’s also a contest where you can dress up however you like and my close friend at the time was telling me that she dressed as Helen of Troy. Believe me, I had no clue about what it was, only dressing up as you like sounded so much fun. The mini-me thought that What the heck! Neither can I be whatever I want nor I went to the Sports Day! Ridiculous!
The examples I have used may sound adolescent, perhaps you may think “why the hell this grown-up lady talking about costumes and stuff.” My point is very simple - be whoever you wish to be without restrictions. Although it’s impossible for you to become a butterfly or cartoon character and many other exaggerated things that are out of your reach. If you crave to be a mambo dancer then you should become one, and if you want to become an archeologist then get yourself some books and gather knowledge, you prefer to be a theatre artist then all you need to do is have that passion within you. You can do any of that and be any of that if you just take your step forward. You don’t have to be Superman or Wonder Woman all 12 months, and between you and me Justice League is a little overrated.
If we constrict ourselves and not accept who we choose to be, we find ourselves blaming society and keep overthinking that the people around us will judge. If we are unusual or choose to be different then our neighbors and colleagues will laugh - the very thought of it makes us walk backward a few steps. You can worry about what others might think, you are first to you; there's no way around it. Choose yourself first before you're backed against a wall.
I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. ― Albert Einstein
