You may have been called crazy, freak, or weirdo quite a few times over the years. Maybe it stung sometimes when you were younger and the glares that others gave you. And of course, it was meant in a derogatory way and not a compliment. Now probably you don't mind hearing it. Probably you didn't stand out too much or you tried to blend in as much as possible but your efforts didn't pay off much.
Isn't it odd that we want to stand out and blend in with our environment or surrounding? Maybe it is a bit strange that we want such diverse things for ourselves. On one hand, we want to be unique and on the other hand, we want someone similar to our nature so that we don't feel left out. The thing is, the more we grow older the more the need to be distinctive rises but the desire to have like-minded people around us may diminish but doesn't extinct. We want a tribe where we fit in. In other words, we want our own pack where our idiosyncrasies are agreeable to others.
Times always change.
I'm sure if you were called "crazy" before, you'd take that as an offense; but now, not so much anymore.
The times when we wanted to blend with the rest of the crowd, have passed, almost. Self-awareness is being regarded as essential for healthy living, or at least that what the media is screaming about now. Hey, I'm not neglecting or devaluing it; it's highly important. You can say I'm not very fond of media influence, that's just my own opinion. I believe that awareness comes from within you. Your friends and family members share your pain and burden to some extent and their presence can bring a lot of changes within you to be better. If you're not ready, then no amount of persuasion will move you. Hence your best motivator is ultimately you.
But yes, I have to agree that in some ways more than others, social media helps. The amount of self-love and self-acceptance quotes work as a regular reminder and often works as fuels when we need them. One of the most popular would be You're a limited edition. And somehow I find myself disagreeing with it. There's only one Me in this world; there's only one You here. There's no one who is an exact copy of us nor we're copies of someone else otherwise we'd have met our clones, don't you think.
Embrace your crazy I like this quote for many reasons. It is vibrant and brave. Also, it appears as if being crazy isn't a bad thing, which you already know of but sometimes when you hear it from others, it just feels slightly better. It challenges us to be authentic and true to ourselves first. It calls out to our passion that we bury just to fit in; no more hiding. It tells us that our quirks aid us to form varied ideas. And maybe, just maybe, if we accept our quirky self, we can show the world what we are made out of. We can help others to see how to bravely accept your own self and not let anyone else treat us like a doormat.
It was crazy before but not anymore. Crazy makes more sense than refined. Believe me, I wasn't surprised at all when I saw a book named Embrace The Glorious Mess That You Are and I thought there's no shortage of books that works as a helping hand but there's no short of demand for that now nor will it be any time soon.
