I’ve been trying so hard to put something catchy along with the title of this review but even after staring long and hard at its posters for the past ten minutes, I couldn’t come up with anything at all. Like every time I start brainstorming about it, I lose my track of thought. It might be due to the movie in actuality being totally disappointing or I can’t remember the “abstract” big picture about the creation of humanity this movie tried to paint. In any case, this simple title has to suffice for now.

Prometheus reminds me of so many things starting from Greek mythology to the rise of humanity and in the end, this movie. Those of you who have ever read any of my blogs, you know how much I’m a fan of him, the character, the legend, Prometheus. He had to endure all the pain in the universe just so he could protect his precious creation, Humanity.

In that sense, naming this movie Prometheus was somewhat accurate. As this too is the story of creation.
So, imagine you’re living in a society so advanced that now it spaceships faster than light. And they've also perfected cryogenic sleep up to that point where you don’t age. Now, what would you do with that advanced technology that almost rivals god? Well for starters you can actually start searching for god himself.
And that’s Prometheus for you. Almost the whole essence of this movie in a few lines.
It’s the year 2089. An old man named Peter Weyland, Ceo Of a company worth thousands of trillions decides to scrounge up an expedition upon finding an ancient map to the stars. As he believes at the end of the path this map leads lives an ancient race of aliens called engineers who are supposed to be the true creator of humanity.
So, the journey begins to a distant moon as the map shows named LV-223 with the two archeologists Shaw and Holloway who found the map onboard along with some other crew members. After an eternity of intergalactic travel, they land on the barren moon with weird trees and unearthly looking cave systems. As they venture farther into the planet, wicked events start taking place.
Does this remind you of anything? Any movie you previously watched? Yeah, this was a prequel to the Alien franchise By Ridley Scott and it was developed for decades. With Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts writing the actual thing, the movie was just above average but enough to fill my expectations.
Even after being called average by many critics and viewers alike including me, this movie is spectacular in its way around VFX.
Like, movies tend to find their way around VFX in three particular types. Firstly, there are these movies that use an extensive amount of VFX but don’t try to hide it. Then there are those which rely on live effects more than VFX. And then there are these movies in which you can barely separate VFX from production designs as the VFX blends away nicely.
Prometheus falls into the last category.
Growing up, I was quite a fan of movies from the same genre. And so I've watched movies from this franchise quite a few times. Except for the disappointing Aliens VS Predators movies, the whole franchise has a pretty well-established universe with nicely woven lore. And that was my main focal point towards this movie. To dive into the addition of mythos this movie brought. And it successfully delivered it.
With a budget of 130$ and a mere 403 mills in the box office signifies the excruciating fact that this movie has somewhat failed to deliver. But to the fans, it's not “Awsome” but more like “Meh, it's okay”.
If you decide to give this franchise a shot, then you should never start with this movie. The original Alien was almost a space epic. So start from there and slowly walk your way towards the new movies and you'll be okay.
Happy watching. See you next time, PEACE.
