I always thought chestnuts are available everywhere in the world, but my previous postings on similar occasions have shown me that this is not so and many do not even know how chestnuts taste.
Ich dachte immer, Kastanien gibt es überall auf der Welt, aber meine vorigen Postings bei ähnlichen Gelegenheiten haben mir gezeigt. dass das durchaus nicht so ist und viele gar nicht wissen, wie Kastanien schmecken.

Erst mal. auch wenn sie auf englisch "chest nuts" heißen, haben sie mit dem was wir als Nüsse kennen überhaupt nichts gemeinsam. Das Innere ist weich, wie, ja wie soll ich das beschreiben? Härterr als eine gekochte Kartoffel. Aber eben weicher als Nüsse, naja Kastanien eben ;-)

Zum Verzehr geeignet sind nur Ess Kastanien, es gibt auch noch andere Sorten wie Rosskastanien, die sich gut zum Basteln eignen, oder sogar um Seife daraus herzustellen. Aber essen kann man nur die echten Maroni und diese nur im gekochten oder gebratenem Zustand, wobei die Schale beim Braten zuvor angeritzt werden muss, damit sie schön aufspringt und sich die Kastanie danach gut herauslösen lässt, das sieht dann so aus:
