It's been a busy week, and today I am sharing one of those moments that make my heart flutter—those moments where I feel like I am not just a teacher, but a friend and a confidant. I just learned that their examination period has just ended, which explains why my student last weekend was distracted and grumpy. Felt hurt 💔 and guilty about being mean to her, but now I understand (don't we all hate examinations and tons of homework?) and I owe her an apology, although I have to call her out about playing games, tho.
Today I was having a conversation with one of my students. She told me not to have the lesson proper and just talk because she was so tired, and I agreed. She later showed me a picture of her cat listening to us (her mom was actually listening to our conversation too, which is why I can hear her giggling while her daughter and I were talking).
The highlight is that she remembered I have cats, and told me her two cats seem to know and love me 🥰 and would always go inside her room whenever they hear me. She jokingly told me that me that her Mom will enroll the cats too, lol. Her cats' names are Coffee, the white and gray one, and Pamela, the orange cat; both of them are English Shorthairs. Coffee looks snobby but she's sweet and loves to cuddle. Pamela, on the other hand, prefers a calm and quiet environment. She also likes KFC 😂 and will occasionally steal some food while they are having a meal 😅. Sometimes her grandma will also have a casual conversation with me in Mandarin, too. I have known them long enough to feel like I am just their neighbor. 😅
After class, her mom told me that she was so tired she didn't even change her school uniform and just immediately went to her computer to meet me. She didn't want to cancel our class because she wanted to tell me how her day went.
This is a reminder for me to keep going no matter how tired, useless, and unmotivated I feel. How's everyone's midweek? May is being such a mean girl to me, and I can't believe we are almost halfway through this year. There is a loooong way to go before 2027! We've got this—let's take it one day at a time, and I hope the rest of your May treats you a lot better. Lezzgo 💨
