Hey readers! The previous parts are in my hive page in the posts section! Enjoy! okay, now on with the story!
Ethan's POV (continued)
Dorian drove over the speed limit, which made me feel nervous as ever. I did however like how the wind felt in my hair. While Dorian drove like a maniac, David sat in the back yelling out the gate and terminal for the flight to France, and Andrea, who sat across from David, begged Dorian to slow down. When I heard planes roaring overhead in the sky, I knew we were close to the airport.
I thought of all those summers me and Maris spent running in wet rain grass under the sun. All those days spent eating ice cream and talking.
I couldn’t lose her without saying goodbye.
As soon as we got in the airport, I heard the intercom yell, “Flight for France leaving in five minutes.”
“Screw it, let’s run!” I told my friends, and we did.
With maximum effort, I managed to dodge running into people. I made it to the gate for the flight to France. I searched the canvas of faces and people for Maris, and I soon found her, her back turned as she stood up and got ready to walk down the jet bridge.
“Maris! Maris!” I yelled, running towards her like a wild man.
Maris turned. “Ethan?”
She ran and threw her arms around me so fast I could hardly fathom that she just did that. I wrapped my arms around her as well.
“Ethan! I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you I was leaving! I had no time to!” Maris told me, tears filling her eyes.
“It’s fine, Maris, I get it. But I wanted to tell you this. You were right. Nothing lasts forever. We couldn’t stay best friends in the same town our whole lives, eventually something was going to happen.”
A tear rolled down Maris’s face. I didn’t mean it like that Ethan!”
“I know, but it works that way too. Here. I wanted to give you your notebook back before it’s too late. I’ll miss you Maris.”
And I handed Maris the notebook.
Maris’s POV
I quickly opened my notebook to the last page, where I had written that I loved Ethan. I gasped, for something new was written under my writing, in sloppy handwriting.
I LOVE EHTAN THOMAS <3
I love you too.
I couldn’t believe it. Ethan liked me back!
“Mom, can I borrow a pen!?” I asked her quickly.
Mom turned. “We’re boarding!”
“I know, but please Mom, this’ll only take a second.”
Mom stared at me with her eyebrows resting just above her lashes. “You’d better be quick, girl. Mom dug in her purse and handed me a pen.
“Thanks Mom!” I quickly scribbled something on that last page and ripped it out of my notebook. I ran to Ethan, who was turning to talk with our school friends.
David was the first to notice me coming. “Maris! Have a good time in France, eat a cheese-filled croissant for me!” David yelled and smiled warmly at me.
“Alright, bye you guys. Ethan, here.” I shoved him the notebook page.
“Wha-” As he looked at it, I ran off, back to my parents as quickly as I could. I turned back to look at him once.
After his eyes slid across the page he looked up at me and smiled, giving me a thumbs up. I smiled. I already knew what was on the page, so I knew what the thumbs up was for.
I LOVE EHTAN THOMAS <3
I love you too.
P.S. Call me!
Now that he knew my number, I knew we’d be friends for a long time coming.
Me and Ethan continued to stay in touch and call each other all the time. As soon as I was old enough, I moved away from France. I wanted to travel the world.
My first stop was Mexico city, and when I got there I was sitting on the steps of an old cathedral, waiting for an old friend.
Ethan wanted to be a racecar driver, yet he never wanted to leave the neighborhood we had lived in as kids. He had to try new things in life, and he learned that soon enough. He said that me leaving home for France as a kid really woke him up that nothing ever stays the same, and that he had to enjoy things while they lasted, and try new things as well.
Well, visiting Mexico would be new for the both of us, and I was quite excited for him to arrive!
“Maris?”
I turned to my left. Ethan was sitting next to me, two ice creams in his hand. One was pistachio, the other, cookies and cream.
I smiled. My favorite. I grabbed the cookies and cream flavored ice cream. “Pistachio? Since when do you like pistachio?”
Since we tried it when we were kids. It turns out this flavor is actually the best. Tastes sweet and a little other-worldly.
I smiled. “See? Good things can come out of trying something new.”
He smiled, and then we kissed.
When we parted, I said. “Common, let’s walk around. I wanna get to know this place.”
We got up, and walked down the sidewalk, hands linked.
“I found one thing that will last forever,” Ethan turned to me smiling.
“What?”
“Our love. I will always love you.” Ethan said softly.
I squeezed his hand. “I will always love you too.”
And that one statement rang true, for the rest of our lives.
