It's been a bit, but we're picking up where we left off with the DREDGE playthrough and writing prompts. Our sailor has so far spent 7 tracked days on the Sea of Angels, and in that time has enjoyed peaceful moments, survived stark terror, and seen the thing that hunts him. Last round, we were confronted by a siren's song from a writhing mound of eels... What fate awaits our stalwart sailor today?
Game: Dredge by scyllallycs.
Location: Trothguard, on the Sea of Angels.
Player Character: Unknown vessel/unknown captain.
Dredge is an exploration-based journaling RPG and was something I immediately thought would be a neat aid to my own worldbuilding - as I could use the game as prompts to create a story for a character that could be part of my world.
Today's card:
Day 8
I wish I could say with confidence that what happened today was a trick of my eyes... a mirage or my addled brain playing tricks with me... but I can't. And that fact leaves me with more questions than I'd like.
I saw a castle rising from the waters today. Huge and oddly shaped towers jutted towards the sky. The cracked stones were covered in moss and some sort of purple hanging vines. There were lights within some of those towers, and as we approached the drawbridge slowly opened, a yawning maw of ragged stone.
The boat slowed, briefly, before resuming its normal speed and I was sure we'd be slipping into the strange ocean-bound castle soon... but as we approached it... it...
It's hard to describe. It's like the building distorted in a kaleidoscope of odd angles and impossibly warped stone, before folding in on itself. I think the most unsettling thing - after the thought of "we could have been in there" was shaken off - was that it was entirely silent. There was no breaking of wood or sundering of stone to punctuate what I was seeing and after about 5 minutes of this impossible dance while it folded into itself getting smaller and smaller... it just winked out of existence.
I can't tell if what I saw was meant to be a trap, or if it was a way out of this hellish existence, or if it was a trick of my own mind... or just one of many senseless occurrences that mean nothing out here.
Either way, it has left me somewhat unsettled and once again questioning the nature of this place, and what my role in it is. If anything.
Perhaps I'm mad, and this is all in my mind.
