Dredge is an exploration-based journaling RPG and was something I immediately thought would be a neat aid to my own worldbuilding - as I could use the game as prompts to create a story for a character that could be part of my world.
Today's card:
Day 9
I had dreams of the Hunter all night. The sound of creaking chains and the smell of rotting wood chased me into the waking world, but thankfully faded as I groggily arose for the day. A firm reminder that even though it hasn't dogged my heels for a few days, the Hunter is still out there. Still looking.
It was several hours later that we came upon the vibrant purple swirls in the water. Flotsam and jetsam bobbed amongst the brightly coloured liquid floating atop the water; open-topped boxes of broken bottles jostled with discarded wooden cups and bowls. All of it was stained with whatever substance was resisting fully mixing into the water.
The ship stopped in the middle of the swirling purple liquid, and I knew instinctively that I should cast my net here. It took a few tries, dragging up broken bottles and other bits that looked like discards from a feast, but eventually I snagged something that I knew was what I'd been looking for.
I carefully extracted it from my net and turned it in my hand. It was a small crystal vial of a strangely swirling green liquid with waving ribbons of silver liquid. Once again, the item had an immediate familiarity for me though I have no idea why.
It could be that the boat itself is compelling me to collect these things, and the familiarity is being passed to me so I don't throw them out... But maybe that's attributing more power and sentience to the ship than it actually has.
Either way, tomorrow is another day, and so I've stashed the vial with the rest of my dredged up treasures in hopes it will one day be useful or meaningful.
