Tengo recuerdos de muchas rondas con juegos de mesa, donde la diversión acompaña, pero la competencia también. Considero que uno de los juegos donde la tensión y el espíritu competitivo se desborda, más que la diversión es el Monopolio. Viendo la imagen de Hive account@lanzjoseg y en el Concurso. Observa Piensa Escribe, me animé a compartir algunas reflexiones entorno a momentos emocionantes y también enseñanzas gracias a las rondas con Monopolio. Juego que empecé a jugar desde muy pequeña, creo que tenía como 11 años.

Los juegos son pasatiempos, diversión, entretenimiento, distracción, esparcimiento y también pueden ser educativos. Me encantan cuando podemos aprender juagando. Entonces, quiero hablar sobre los conocimientos y habilidades que nos puede dejar unas cuantas rondas de Monopolio. Hablo de largas rondas, porque podemos durar varios días en ella. Es que este es un juego que se toma en serio al tratarse de invertir dinero. Ya saben, hay que hacer compras, ventas, cobranzas, actuar como unos inversionistas, al menos así nos sentimos en el juego, ese es el objetivo.

Empieza la ronda con un capital en efectivo que nos entrega el banco; uno de los jugadores. Algo importante que decir, y es que durante toda la ronda de Monopolio corremos el riesgo de ir a la cárcel sin ser una cuestión de honor, porque todos estamos en la misma posición. Los dados y el azar se encargarán de nuestro destino, mientras tanto aprendemos analizar bien cuanto dinero está invertido, cuales propiedades tenemos y cuales están libres aún, qué posibilidades tenemos de seguir invirtiendo de acuerdo a las ganancias y al dinero que poseemos. Es bastante complejo jugar Monopolio, allí todos se ríen, pero en realidad están tensos.

También analizamos al resto de los jugadores, cuánto dinero tiene invertido, cuánto dinero cobra por sus propiedades y que posibilidades tienen de seguir o no invirtiendo. Debemos ser cautelosos y arriesgados al mismo tiempo, porque nos damos cuenta que lo mejor es invertir, quien no lo hace solo pierde dinero pagando rentas al resto de los jugadores que si invirtieron. Entonces, aprendemos que quien no arriesga no gana, por el contrario, solo pierde.

Jugando Monopolio todos representamos la competencia de todos, aunque seamos familia el juego nos enseña a ser celosos con lo que tenemos y aunque suene perverso no lo es, porque si todos estamos en quiebra financiera quien ayudará al que no tiene.

El Monopolio es un juego que enseña finanzas, aunque en la vida real no todos ponemos en práctica los buenos aprendizajes. ¿Qué opinas?

I have fond memories of many game nights filled with board games, where fun goes hand in hand with competition. I believe that Monopoly is one of those games where the tension and competitive spirit really run high—even more so than the fun. Looking at the image from Hive account@lanzjoseg and the Contest: Observe, Think, Write, I was inspired to share some reflections on exciting moments and lessons learned from playing Monopoly. It’s a game I started playing when I was very young—I think I was about 11 years old.

Games are pastimes, fun, entertainment, a distraction, recreation, and they can also be educational. I love it when we can learn by playing. So, I want to talk about the knowledge and skills that a few rounds of Monopoly can teach us. I’m talking about long rounds, because they can last several days. It’s just that this is a game that’s taken seriously when it comes to investing money. You know, you have to make purchases, sales, collect rent, act like investors—at least that’s how we feel in the game, and that’s the goal.
The round begins with a cash stake provided by the bank—one of the players. It’s important to note that throughout the Monopoly round, we all run the risk of going to jail, and it’s not a matter of honor, because we’re all in the same boat. The dice and chance will determine our fate, while in the meantime we learn to carefully analyze how much money is invested, which properties we own and which are still available, and what possibilities we have to continue investing based on our earnings and the money we possess. Playing Monopoly is quite complex; everyone laughs, but in reality they’re tense.
We also analyze the other players: how much money they have invested, how much rent they collect from their properties, and what chances they have of continuing to invest or not. We must be cautious and take risks at the same time, because we realize that the best thing is to invest; those who don’t just lose money by paying rent to the other players who did invest. So, we learn that if you don’t take risks, you don’t win—on the contrary, you only lose.
When playing Monopoly, we all represent competition against one another; even though we’re family, the game teaches us to be protective of what we have. And while that might sound harsh, it isn’t, because if we’re all financially bankrupt, who will help those who have nothing?
Monopoly is a game that teaches finance, though in real life, not all of us put those lessons into practice. What do you think?
