Not everyone is a whale
(image source: Dall-e. I gave it the article it gave me the image)
This post is specifically written for in response to her Actifit post which you can see here
Here are some of her thoughts:
- Increase Actifit rank to 30+
- Change from low paying delegation to
to higher paying one
- Delegate 50% of her HP .... (I think it should be 100%)
- Earn passive income by holding coins (GLD)
However I have to respond to these :
The other 50% of my HP will stay in my wallet. This is a strategic move to ensure I have enough Resource Credits (RC) to post daily and, more importantly, to start giving my own upvotes some actual value. Seeing my vote valued at $0.000 was a wake-up call, and I am determined to grow my influence so I can support my friends in return.
as I think this is a weak choice
The idea of earning 8% weekly distributions just by holding the tokens in my wallet is exactly the kind of passive income I was looking for.
as I think this is a great idea
Here, you don't just post; you invest. You don't just like you curate value.
Which is so very true
One of the biggest things I love on Hive is its curation value. I also love that Resource Credits are real. I also love that it has a reputation score. When you add them together? I don't see comments nearly as negative as traditional social media. I don't see endless flame wars. I see things being far more civilized.
- When you have limited upvotes and downvotes you think before you like
- When your thoughts can make you money you tend to frame things more nicely so you can get cash
- When a downvote affects if you are seen you tend to be respectful as negative comments have consequences
In that way when I see celebrities who quit social media because of trolls I wish they would come to Hive. Sure they could be trolled here just like anywhere....but I would hazard a guess it would be much much less common. Besides, Hive is complicated enough and usernames valuable enough to keep spam accounts at bay (to a degree).
But I digress.
I think has the right idea in wanting her upvotes to matter. The problem is you have to weigh curation effort to the amount of return you get on Hive.
- If you delegate 100% of your HP to a curator you get a higher return with little effort.
- If you curate content yourself it is much more work for a typically lower return.
Here is the problem.
Assume that built up her HP to the point where a vote is worth 0.004 ... yes it is possible. However, it will absolutely take time. Now the first upvote will be worth the 0.004 but each subsequent vote will be worth less. Also upvote power increases slowly during the day. A person gets about 10 upvotes worth of power regenerated daily. If you are at 100% power you get no additional upvotes daily. Vote too much and you lose power. Vote too little and you lose opportunity and return.
To get the most curation value :
- You have to find 10 good posts daily.
- You have to make sure you clear the "dust" threshold as anything under 0.002 doesn't pay out
Factoring that in? It means a lot of work everyday trying to find 10 good posts to upvote AND having enough HP to have it matter.
If you delegate? The curation account does the work of finding the posts and as things are paid weekly (usually) even small amounts of delegated HP clear the "dust" bar and make for reliable income.
But delegating everything leaves no resource credits!
True. That's why the Great Little Dragons curator delegates HP to those who want to follow the GLD pathway so they can get full rewards by doing maximum delegation. (Note: 20HP has been delegated to the account so she can delegate all her HP without losing the ability to interact with the chain).
will probably tell me that delegating RC is the better play here as it allows the new user to interact while leaving the curation account with full voting power. He's right but I haven't actually figured out how much RC I should delegate to keep a new user fully able to do things :D
But curating good posts is important!
is actually 100% correct in wanting to have her upvotes mean something! Curation is important! However, its just really hard to do well with the current low price of HIVE. Luckily the BBH project has a really cool answer.
Now I still believe that going along the GLD pathway, holding GLD tokens, and delegating to the GLD curator () is the most profitable way for her to develop her HP stash and rewards and I'll write a dedicated post on why in a different post.
My recommendation to her IS to build a stash of BBH tokens though.
Here is my reasoning to recommend her buying 1000 BBH tokens.
- Detail: 1000 BBH tokens cost very little
They cost less than 4 Hive which she will get in a week after getting her post payout from a GLD sponsored HELIOS burn (watch for the )
- Detail: 1000 BBH tokens gives you a weekly distribution of swap.hive (along with other coins)
That swap.hive is really useful in purchasing BBH, AFIT, GLD or other tokens over the long term.
But the true power
Is the tipping!
If has 1000 BBH then once a day she can write one reply and throw in the letters !BBH into the message and two things will happen.
- First she will get 1 BBH token
- Second -- it will give 1 BBH token to the person who wrote the post
If she has 100HP locked in her votes are worth nothing.... boooooo
If she holds only 4 Hive worth of BBH? Her tip is worth... 0.004 Hive and she also gets value!.... horray
But it seems too good to be true?
Looking at the value of that BBH vs the investment?
- 0.00397 Hive/day * 365 days/year = 1.45 Hive / year
- 1.45 Hive/year / 3.97 Hive cost * 100% = 36.5% return per year
That one vote gets her 36.5% return on her investment! Plus it gives value to everyone she comments (and uses the tip command) on.
But does the tipping command actually work?
Here is my comment with the !BBH request
Here is the tip received in wallet feed
Here is the BBH token given to me for requesting the tip
Why the extra information?
Well, notice how I'm getting 0.00893466 swap.hive weekly? That's because I hold 19583 BBH tokens.
Doing a little math :)
1000 BBH would give me 0.000487 swap.hive weekly which is 0.0238 swap.hive annually.
Is it tiny? Yes.
Is it measurable? Yes.
Is it more valuable to use the !BBH command? Yes.
But is it awesome?
Yes.
If I'm summing it up?
I love the fact that wants to give value to posts she likes. She wanted to do it with the upvote mechanic built into Hive and I applaud her for the thought. Getting the best return for her and the bigger value to the content she likes?
Delegate everything...
...spend a little on some BBH
...bring in the tipping BOT
...get more BBH and a weekly return on the coin.
I don't think it gets any better than that.
Plus thanks to for putting in the work to make the BBH project
and thanks to anyone who made it this far in the post. I always appreciate views on posts and comments as well. If you notice I got anything wrong? I'm not perfect, please let me know. If you know any other good tipping bots? Well, I'd love to hear about those also :)
