Making real life connections
Today transferred $50 CAD ($35.97 USD) to external investments.
What were the investments : Harvest Diversified Income Fund (HDIF)
Price $50 for 5.8548 with each share at $8.54 CAD
Doing a little math: 614 GLD for each share.
Since this account now has over 1000 GLD.... Sending 614 GLD to to put my name on one of those shares :) Now someday I'll figure out how to transfer NFT's and issue an NFT to represent each stock which I think would be really cool... but at the moment. In addition 1842 GLD send from
account for 3 HDIF shares.
Keep track with listings in posts :)

Why HDIF?
Now if you have checked my previous posts you will have noticed that I made posts on basic ways to start investing. Start with very basic very easy to understand vehicles. Savings accounts and GIC's. However, as people get more sophisticated and more diversified they will typically start investing in mutual funds, etf's, stocks, preferreds and other investments.
I chose HDIF because I believe it will be an excellent learning tool. It has a lot of things going for it to talk about.
- It is an ETF --> So I can talk about ETF's
- It is widely diversified --> So I can talk about underlying investments
- It uses derivatives --> So I can talk about calls, puts, covered and naked
- It uses margin --> So I can talk about leverage
- It gives a high monthly distribution --> So I can talk about dividends vs capital growth
And because it gives a high yield dividend I can bring more money back into HIVE each and every month.
Is it a great investment for new investors?
My gut answer is no but then again, every investors needs are different.
Is it worth $8.54 as a learning tool?
I would answer absolutely. Even if you were a new investor buying one share and then doing a deep dive into how exactly every component works could easily be worth the price. I mean it is possible to spend more than that on a cup of coffee with a friend. Knowledge is easily worth the $8.54.
Am I going to break down the stock in one post? Nope That is way more than I intend to write at one time. Am I going to start writing about it in this post? Nope This is the introduction to how I got the ETF and why I chose it.
Rest assured if you are curious to learn more it will be coming ..assuming I survive the snowy roads on my way to the airport today. Looking forward to doing the deep dive and thanks for dropping by today.
