Another day, another hotel
I walked from the JW Marriott to the Sheraton Tunjungan today. One luxury hotel to he next. It is always fun to see the difference between brands even within the chain.
Stepping into the room there is always a "will it be nice" question in the back of someone's mind and this one absolutely lets you think... Oh yeah, this is nice.
Not a budget hotel
The washroom and amenities confirm that.
A beautiful lobby
Of course you would probably also be thinking how nice is it after walking into the hotel as the lobby is very upscale also.
You know its not some cheap operation from the very first glance.
Or as seen from another angle.
Even the waiting lounge is spacious and classy.
Compared to my previous stay at the JW Marriot?
It is weird. On paper if you look at the amenities side by side they would be almost identical. Everything works, amenities are the same, both have a lounge, tub, great staff, comfortable bed, quiet AC, bright windows and so on. The Sheraton has a more modern feel and the JW a more classic feel.
On paper they should be equally nice and they are even similar priced.
But that really isn't the case
I wished I loved this hotel more
Please don't misunderstand. This is an excellent hotel.
However, after staying 6 weeks straight in a hotel I start noticing little things. In this hotel I'm noticing how the ergonomics and little logistical things add up. Those little things make me want to say it is beautiful hotel that I don't care for that much. Is it comfortable? Absolutely. Well run? Yes. High Quality? Absolutely! Probably one of the most elite hotels in town.
But I think I'd rather stay at one of the other Marriott hotels in town.
It is the little things like:
There is a really long hallway to my room
It doesn't seem like much but it isn't exactly an inviting hallway and every time I want to do anything in the hotel there are just that many more steps needed. Good for Actifit but not great for room satisfaction.
There isn't a desk
Is it a lifechanging omission? Not at all, but when you like to blog on Hive and game? It makes a quality of life difference.
Only one electrical outlet (sort of)
There are 4 outlets in the room that I've found. Two of them are Indonesian only. I have an adapted..but while the prongs are right the housing won't fit into the socket. Very annoying. There is also one outlet hidden behind a curtain in a spot that makes it virtually unusable. There are two nightstands but only one has an electrical outlet. If you come with your spouse? Prepare to fight to charge your phone :)
Watching TV?
Can I watch from the bed? Yes. The couch? Nope. The TV is on a swivel but even at maximum swivel you are stuck with a bunch of the screen behind the window curtain.
As an aside. The Aloft, The Four Points and the JW Marriott all had HDMI cables I could borrow. The Sheraton .. nope.. no the hotel doesn't have those available for guests. Luckily they knew where I could find one for cheap. Thank you Mr. DIY store.
Final verdict.
Would I be upset staying in this hotel? Of course not.
Will it impress your wife or girlfriend? Most likely yes.
Does it shine as "luxurious"? Again I would give it a strong yes.
However for me? It didn't fit my needs all that well. Great hotel but not for me.
Thank for reading and of course as always I love comments.
