Hours spent making little changes
Months ago I was trying to make a web based program that would make a fun way to play a game, watch an ad, and make a little income stream to bring onto HIVE.
Then use that income as meager as it might be to allow people to play the game, post their results, and compete for a monthly prize. By itself it was never meant to be a super game, just a fun little time waster for a minute or two to be part of a community that had fun. If I could make a suite of games? Make them useable online or offline? Watch an ad or not? Web2 or Web3?
I thoughts it was a great idea but...
.... It was a lot of work and I'm not a programmer.
So the game fell into the ideas that never quite got completed.
Is it finished?
Absolutely not.
But its closer than it was.
Sometimes ideas change. Sometimes HIVE changes. Sometimes I have more free time to actually work on things. This time someone actually found my unfinished work and was going to show it to people and I had to say "Not yet... it can't be quite that crappy before showtime".
I mean, honestly, it didn't even have any sound!
Does it have bugs still? Absolutely! Stupid dragon gets stuck only going right or left sometimes. Want to play it on android...Ooooffff... poor dragon flies like he has a bad drug habit (fast, slow, fast again). Difficulty level? I made the thing and I haven't passed the 120 second mark ... yet ;)
And honestly?
I think it is playable now. Even more importantly I asked my son to play it once, he got frustrated, and played a half dozen more times. The sign of an interesting game at least.
All because someone took an interest.
A blast from the past
One thing I did see while I was adding sound to the program. It used a very very old sound format from a tune which I believe was free release decades ago. At least the release notes I remember from way back then led me to believe it was.
Anyways....
As released the file size was :
31KB ... Tiny. But in the old days storage was expensive and limited.
Then I went and did some file conversion to something more web browser friendly. After one conversion to a modern format the size became....
5300KB
Wow. 150 times larger than the original. I guess its proof that storage has gotten cheaper over time. Either that or file sizes have gotten out of control. Still I didn't want to leave that as it was so I did another conversion and the new file size?
2100KB Still terrible but more reasonable.
At the end of the day?
I'm pretty pleased with myself. It isn't polished. It isn't great. But then again, it is something that I would have had fun playing 40 years ago. I'm pretty pleased with that.
Now I better get moving so that I can actually get enough steps to post my Actifit today!
And stay tuned. All going well I might actually have something to try out sooner than later :)
Thanks for dropping by.
