Music has been in existence for a long time now and it has also played a great role in humanity. Music preaches, and it’s also like a tonic to the soul. When you listen to good music, you feel connected and not just enjoy the beats alone or the rhymes and lyrics. But it would have its way of passing a message across to you.
The type of music you listen to would also go a long way in affecting your way of thinking and your perspective on life. I could remember some of the “Apala” native Yoruba songs that were sung by great musicians in the 80’s and 90’s. My dad still has them in his memory and most times reflects on it with the present life scenario.
I also listen to music but I am not an addict. When I listen to music for the first time and it doesn’t pass any message across to me, then I nullify it immediately.
There are times when I would even just be in a vehicle and the driver would tune on the radio, and then a nice music is played. From there I might download the music and reflect upon it for a long time.
I was in my service when I listened to Yoruba music played by my roommate. He was not a Yoruba guy, but he kept playing this artist's music and even kept it on repeat. One day I asked him the reason why he cherished the guy's songs despite not knowing what the music was about.
He responded that he believed the artist would never sing just anyhow song, and even despite not singing in his language, he felt connected with the music. So that’s music!
And the reality about the music when I listened to it for the first time I got to learn some life lessons from it. Afterward, I had to listen to more of his songs and albums. And I realized he was just blessed with it.
The sad part of it is that even though he sings heart-to-heart music and connects his music to the souls. He never got the fame and recognition he deserved. But all be it, he was not for the fame and the recognition, but he kept singing to impact and touch lives.
Here is one of his songs I felt connected with, Heya! By Brymo.
The music reflects life, the hustle and bustle we have to pass through in life, despite that we have just a little time left. The way life keeps coming at us, and how much we have embraced it so much that we almost forgot that time waits for no one.
Some people will enter our lives, some will leave, some will love us, and some won't, some will be rich and some will remain poor, life and its uncertain, yet we still have to live in it.
His music would always have a touch on your heart. He sang another song where he advised humans to keep to themselves, and the next decision they are about to take.
That’s just the reality of life because humans are so wicked and you can't even see what's deep in their thoughts. Some will fake smile at your presence, but behind you, they are the ones stabbing you.
In conclusion
So I find music as a way to touch people and make the world feel connected. But it’s sad that nowadays, there are just a few of these great musicians who have these rare talents to sing good songs. There was a song I listened to some time ago and I regretted the few minutes I wasted listening to it. There is no meaning to all he thought he sang. Music is life, in my friend's words.
