Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends.
Alphonse de Lamartine
Music has always been a part of life and It plays a major role in my life, Sometimes it inspires and motivates me, other times, it encourages me, makes me fall asleep 😁😄 and even keeps me going.
Music heals me, it touches me and also serves as a companion, It helps me relax, It produces a sense of calmness, peace and quietness in this world filled with Chaos.
Music is Expressive, Through Music, I can express myself and tell the world how I really feel. No matter how we feel, we can express it all through Music; whether love, joy sorrow, hate, anger pain , or compassion.
Through music we share our life stories and experiences, we connect to the world through music. Sometimes when I cant say words, all I do is sing which shows that truly music is life.
Today, I will be talking about music from a neighbours Perspective based on the questions given by .
Are you a musician or have a neighbour that is a musician
I have neighbors that are musicians, most of them are noisy and loud, and they always disturb the neighborhood as a result of their singing, I also have a cousin who is a musician and crazily he is my neighbour.
Every morning when he wakes up, He would sing songs on top of his voice for hours which was so disturbing, Well, we all had to get used to it.
Most Musicians i know believe that singing very loud in the morning is a form of vocal exercise that helps open up the voice which can be very disturbing and annoying.
As for me, I started singing from a very tender age, my uncle who was the choir director at that time forced i and my sister to join the choir when we are about 10-11 years of Age and Since then I have been singing. I usually sing lead in church, and at some point I was asked to lead the choir in my Local church, I have also accompanied some musicians to the studio for some sessions. So yes, I would consider myself as a Musician.
Does someone in your close family play an instrument
Yes, I have a relativee who plays the drum, Samuel by name, he is a very good and sound drummer, I see him as a close member of my family, even though he is not a part of my immediate family, because we lived together for such a long period of time, He's just like a brother to me now.
Is it difficult to listen many times to the practising sessions?
"Absolutely Not!"
It is not difficult for me to listen to people when they rehearse.
Being part of a choir, and some other music teams means you have to rehearse all the time, sometimes two times a week, other times there times a week, including all night rehearsals, Not to talk of the time you have to make out for personal rehearsals and all that, I think I have gotten used to hearing people rehearse and listening to practicing sessions over time.
As a matter of fact I love it when I hear people practice, when they try to figure out their parts ( different musical voices like suprano, alto, bass, terno and so on). I learn one or two things about music when I listen many times to practicing as well.
Is it nice, do you find joy in that?
Yes, I find joy in it,
Like I said before, I like it when I hear people rehearse, hearing them try out their musical parts, the mistakes they make, the adjustments, Its all joy to me but truth be told, sometimes, listening to practicing sessions can be annoying, especially when I am trying to sleep, or when whosoever is rehearsing won't stop making silly mistakes; it could be annoying.
Did you have some funny moments?
Oh yes, I do have a lots of funny Moments.
one time, I and my folks rehearsed a song we were to perform the next day, it was a rap song, not the type we perform often, and with a very long lyrics as well, but as usual we all believed we could pull it off, It was time for us to perform the song the next day, and guess what?? we all forgot the lyrics, It seemed like everyone was confused, Inside of me I was just laughing. It was so funny and embarrassing too.
I've had this experience a couple of times especially when i sing leads, most times when I forget a lyric I improvise immediately and fix in a different lyric that matches with the song.
Being A musicain is not so easy.
Tell me, what do you do when you forget your lyrics while singing??
Have someone ever complained to you if you study your musical instrument?
Nope. I don't play any musical instrument, although I really wanted to learn how to play one, specifically the keyboard,I made attempts to learn, but to no avail. After trying more than twice, I finally gave up and told my self it wasn't for me.
Maybe you are not a musician, either have a musician neighbour, but you like to listen to loud music?
I really enjoy listening to music when its loud, Most times it motivates and gives me the energy i need to get work done. There was a time i liked listening to music with ears phones but as of now I prefer listening to loud music.
What was the wildest thing you made in your flat, bothering the neighbours?
I think the Wildest thing I do that bothers my neighbors is singing very loud continuously even when I am asked to stop, this really upsets them and sometimes I get funny comments like; You shout too much, can't you sing and not scream?
What is your favourite music you listen to very loudly?
I listen to Gospel music very loudly most especially because Gospel songs always inspires me.
Songs by Tacha cobs, Bri Barbineaux, Lauren Diagle, Hilsong and many others are my go-to songs anyday, anytime.
I also love to listen to Whitney Houston and I play her songs loud as well. she was not a gospel artist but I love her all the same.
Has someone called the police?
Never. Am sure the police has something better to do, believe me.
Even if someone calls the police it will take a decade for him or her to come so no one calls the police.
What do your neighbours listen to and do you like it?
My neighbours listen to all kinds of music, From our Traditional/Local songs to Afro beat/Nigerian songs, Hiphop, pop,Gospel, R and B/soul,
And many others including Reggae, especially Raggae songs by Bob Marley. To me the songs my neighbours listen to depends on their mood and how they feel at a particular moment. I do like the songs my neighbours listen to and most times I sing along and just vibe with them.
