Everything in life has a beginning and an end. We may fear the end, whatever it is. But in the end, as you say, it makes us stronger, perhaps more independent. Sure it does and it helps our survival and hopefully allows us to find happiness.
Whenever I think of something further into the future, I tell myself: "Live today! The present is where you find real life. The past is history, we can't change it, we can only learn from it. The future, well, time will bring us further, what currently is the future will be the present/ Let time do that, we can't control it. But what we can control is the present. For ourselves. So let's be in the present and enjoy it."
