Certainly those of us who make music and practice an instrument in the comfort of our homes have had different experiences; not everyone who listens to us enjoys what we do, but there are people who are open to it and who in some way support our performance in the area of music.
Ciertamente sus vivencias las hemos tenido de forma distintas quienes hacemos música y practicamos algún instrumento en la comodidad de nuestros hogares; no todos quienes nos escuchan disfrutan lo que hacemos, pero si hay personas abiertas a ello y que de algún modo apoyan nuestro desempeño en el área de la música.

1. ¿Are you a musician or do you have a neighbor who is a musician?
I am not a professional musician, but I am an empirical and self-taught musician, my main instrument is the guitar, I also play electric bass, some drums and I am an apprentice singer. Not where I live at the moment, but until a few months ago I had a neighbor who was a violinist and an amateur pianist who was rarely heard when she played.
1. ¿Eres músico o tienes algún vecino que sea músico? No soy músico profesional, pero soy músico empírico y autodidacta, mi instrumento principal es la guitarra, también toco bajo eléctrico, algo de batería y soy aprendiz de cantante. Actualmente donde vivo no, pero hasta hace unos meses tenía de vecino a un violinista y a una pianista amateur que pocas veces se escuchaba cuando tocaba.
2 . ¿Does anyone in your immediate family play an instrument?
Yes, my dad plays guitar and also sings, since he was a teenager he wanted to be a professional guitarist and his dream was to give classical guitar concerts like Paco de Lucia, however, along the way his priorities changed and he dedicated himself to playing as an amateur, his forte are boleros and traditional Colombian music. My brother plays drums, although he doesn't have one at the moment, his forte is reggae and Latin rhythms, he also likes to sing and does it very well.
2. ¿Alguien de tu familia cercana toca algún instrumento? Si, mi papá toca la guitarra y también canta, desde adolescente él quería ser guitarrista profesional y su sueño era dar conciertos de guitarra clásica como Paco de Lucía, sin embargo, en el trayecto sus prioridades cambiaron y se dedicó a tocar como aficionado, su fuerte son los boleros y la música tradicional colombiana. Mi hermano toca batería, aunque actualmente no tiene una, su fuerte es el reggae y los ritmos latinos, también le gusta cantar y lo hace muy bien.
3 . ¿Is it difficult to listen to practice sessions?
No, usually when I'm studying my repertoire or simply doing exercises on the guitar, no one usually interrupts me; I usually do it in the afternoon, very rarely in the evenings since I live in an apartment, my family respects my space with respect to music, as well as when I record a music video for the platform. Personally, I also try not to disturb with noise and I adapt the volume to my space.
3. ¿Es difícil escuchar muchas veces las sesiones de practica? No, comúnmente cuando estoy estudiando mi repertorio o simplemente haciendo ejercicios en la guitarra, nadie suele interrumpirme; suelo hacerlo en horas de la tarde, muy raras veces en las noches ya que vivo en apartamento, mi familia respeta mucho mi espacio con respecto a la música, al igual que cuando grabo un video musical para la plataforma. En lo personal también trato de no molestar con el ruido y adapto el volumen a mi espacio.
4 . ¿Is it pleasant, do you find joy in it?
The word pleasant is an understatement for the feeling it gives me, it makes me happy every time I pick up my guitar to practice or record, it completely disconnects me from reality; I always lock myself in my room to do it and when I plug in the guitar and start playing I feel like I'm giving a concert. Now because my room is relatively small I practice with certain space limitations, 5 years ago when I lived in a big two story house, I had a room that was especially for music, there I rehearsed with my old band and also jammed with other musician friends. The hours of practice will always be a source of joy because they help me not only to improve with the instrument, but also allow me to make catharsis to the events of everyday life.
4. ¿Es agradable, encuentras alegría en ello? La palabra agradable se queda corta para la sensación que me da, me hace feliz cada vez que tomo mi guitarra para practicar o grabar, me desconecto por completo de la realidad; siempre me encierro en mi habitación para hacerlo y cuando conecto la guitarra y empiezo a tocar siento como si estuviera dando un concierto. Ahorita debido a que mi habitación es relativamente pequeña practico con ciertas limitaciones de espacio, hace 5 años cuando vivía en una casa grande de dos pisos, tenía una habitación que era especialmente para la música, ahí ensayaba con mi antigua banda y también hacia jammings con otros amigos músicos. Las horas de práctica siempre serán motivos de alegría ya que me ayudan no solo a mejorar con el instrumento, sino que también me permiten hacer catarsis ante los aconteceres del día a día.
5 . Have you had any funny moments?
Yes, I would say a lot, I'll name 3: the 1st was once I was rehearsing with my band the repertoire of a concert and suddenly the power went out, the funny thing was that we were very inspired playing and when the power went out only the drums remained playing since the rest was electric and the drummer continued playing as if nothing had happened and we had to send him to shut up hahahahahaha.
The 2nd funny moment was when in the middle of rehearsal my guitar stopped playing, I thought it was the cable or the pedal that had been damaged, but in fact it was my nephew who entered the studio and had turned off my amp without realizing it and my friends were laughing out loud about it, since it was previously planned between them hahahahaha.
The 3rd moment was the most epic, during a rehearsal for a concert, when we were on the 3rd song my mom called me because there was a neighbor outside ringing the bell, we stopped playing because we thought she was annoyed by the noise; the lady, who I knew little about her since she didn't socialize much with the neighbors, said hello how are you? I said to her with fear: well and you, how can I help you?... she was American and her accent made it difficult to understand her, however, she said something that surprised me: can I ask you a favor? I told her: of course, what would it be?... at that moment a thousand things went through my head since few people in the urbanization treated her because she was a little cranky and besides my friends in the band were leaning out the window waiting for me. The lady told me in a very calm tone and with a smile: please do not stop playing, every time you make music you make my life happy, I suffer from depression and listening to your music, it calms me down and I feel that you are playing for me... you can imagine my feeling that moment...
I said don't worry I won't stop doing it and certainly our music is for you too, so we are honored with your acceptance, if it makes us happy and you too, we are fulfilling part of our goal as musicians. To sum up, when I entered the studio I told the other members of the band: friends I have some news, everyone was looking terrified hahahaha, ¡¡¡¡ the lady asked me to please... let's keep rocking!!!! And well the screams of joy were the best of that day.
5. ¿Has tenido algún momento divertido? Si, muchísimos diría yo, nombraré 3: el 1ero fue una vez que ensayaba con mi banda el repertorio de un concierto y de repente se fue la luz, lo cómico fue que estábamos muy inspirados tocando y cuando se va la luz solo quedó sonando la batería ya que lo demás era eléctrico y el baterista siguió tocando como si nada hubiera pasado y nos tocó mandarlo a callar jajajajaja.
El 2 momento divertido fue cuando en pleno ensayo dejó de sonar mi guitarra, yo pensaba que era el cable o el pedal que se había dañado, pero en realidad había sido mi sobrino que entró al studio y me había apagado el amplificador sin darme cuenta y mis amigos estaban riéndose a carcajadas por ello, ya que fue previamente planificado entre ellos jajajaja.
El 3er momento fue el más épico, durante un ensayo para un concierto, cuando íbamos por la 3era canción mi mamá me llamó porque había una vecina afuera tocando el timbre, nosotros paramos de tocar porque pensábamos que estaba molesta por el ruido; la señora, que poco conocía de ella ya que no socializaba mucho con los vecinos, me dice ¿hola cómo estás? Yo le dije con temor: ¿bien y usted? ¿En qué le puedo servir?... ella era norteamericana y su acento hacía difícil entenderle, sin embargo, me dijo algo que me sorprendió: ¿puedo pedirte un favor? Le dije por supuesto ¿Cuál sería?... en ese momento se me pasaron miles de cosas por la cabeza ya que poca gente de la urbanización la trataba porque era un poco cascarrabias y además mis amigos de la banda estaban asomados por la ventana a la expectativa. La señora me dice en un tono muy calmado y con una sonrisa: por favor no dejen de tocar, cada vez que ustedes hacen música me alegran la vida, yo sufro de depresión y escuchar su música, me tranquiliza y siento que están tocando para mi… se imaginarán mi sensación ese momento…
Yo le dije no se preocupe que no dejaré de hacerlo y ciertamente nuestra música es para usted también, así que nos honra mucho con su aceptación, si a nosotros nos hace feliz y a usted también, estamos cumpliendo parte de nuestra meta como músicos. Par resumir, cuando entré al studio les dije a los demás integrantes de la banda: amigos les tengo una noticia, todos estaban con cara de aterrados jajajaja ¡¡¡¡la señora me pidió que por favor… sigamos rockeandoooooooooo!!! Y bueno los gritos de alegría fueron lo mejor de ese día.
6 . ¿Has anyone ever complained about you studying your musical instrument?
No, in fact, I try not to disturb the neighbors with the noise, when I want to study with the electric guitar heavy rock, I use headphones and thus avoid tormenting others hehehe.
6. ¿Alguien se ha quejado alguna vez de que estudies tu instrumento musical? No, de hecho, trato de no molestar a los vecinos con el ruido, cuando quiero estudiar con la guitarra eléctrica rock pesado, uso audífonos y así evito atormentar a los demás jejejeje.
7 . ¿In case you are not a musician or have a neighbor who is a musician, do you like to listen to loud music?
Since I live in an apartment I can't do it like I used to do it in my old house. I do like to listen to loud music, but now I listen to it at a moderate volume respecting the neighbors and more because recently in the apartment upstairs someone died and they are in mourning.
7. En caso de que no seas músico o tengas a un vecino músico, ¿te gusta escuchar música a todo volumen? Desde que vivo en apartamento no puedo hacerlo como lo hacía antes en mi antigua casa. Si me gusta escuchar música a alto volumen, pero ahora la escucho en un volumen moderado respetando a los vecinos y más porque recientemente en el apartamento de arriba murió alguien y están de luto.
8 . ¿What has been the wildest thing you have done in your apartment, bothering your neighbors?
Mmm I remember once in a building where I lived there was a neighbor who talked very hard, or rather, she yelled hahaha and it was very annoying to listen to her, in fact the other neighbors couldn't find a way to tell her because she was very aggressive. One day she was very upset arguing with her husband and started to talk to him hard, some neighbors told her to shut up, but she started to insult them through the window and I happened to turn on my stereo and put rock at full volume hahahaha and those neighbors applauded me for it hahahaha, then, I leave the song I put to shut her up. I made her very upset because she started to tell me things, but on the other hand, my neighbors and I took a break from her screaming.
8. ¿Cuál ha sido la cosa más salvaje que has hecho en tu piso, molestando a tus vecinos? Mmm recuerdo una vez en un edificio donde viví que había una vecina que hablaba muy duro, mejor dicho, gritaba jajaja y era muy molesto escucharla de hecho los demás vecinos no hallaban la manera de decírselo porque era muy agresiva. Un día ella estaba muy alterada discutiendo con su esposo y empezó a hablarle duro, unos vecinos la mandaron a callar, pero ella se puso a insultarlos por la ventana y a mi se me ocurrió encender mi equipo de sonido y poner rock a todo volumen jajajaja y esos vecinos me aplaudieron por ello jajajaja, a continuación, les dejo la canción que puse para callarla. A ella la hice molestar mucho porque empezó a decirme cosas, pero por otro lado mis vecinos y yo descansamos de sus gritos.
9 . ¿What is your favorite music that you listen to very loud?
Electronic music, rock and metal. Here are the 3 artists I currently listen to the most.
9. ¿Cuál es tu música favorita que escuchas muy fuerte? Música electrónica, rock y metal. Les dejo a continuación a los 3 artistas que más escucho actualmente.
10 . ¿Has anyone called the police?
Not because of the music I listen to, because as I mentioned before I respect the neighbors a lot, but I do have an anecdote in my old house during a presentation I did with my band there. We were just starting with the band, as amateurs we were, we sounded horrible hahaha, one day we decided to present our songs to our family and friends so they could give us their feedback; when we started to play we played a cover of a song called "Die, Die My Darling" by The Misfits, the noise was so loud that two police cars came to my house hahahahaha and asked us to cancel everything, I leave you the video of that presentation, sadly we could not record the part of the police because they asked us to keep our cell phones away. You are free to give your opinion about the video hahahaha.
I will also share with you this video where we played on December 31 (2009) at a neighbor musician's house, that day the police arrived, but there were so many people that instead of canceling the show we made them come in so they could have a good time with us hahaha, we were 6 bands that day playing until dawn, but it was Christmas so I think they could let us play, ¿don't you think?
10. ¿Ha llamado alguien a la policía? Por la música que escucho no, porque como mencioné anteriormente respeto mucho a los vecinos, pero si tengo una anécdota en mi antigua casa durante una presentación que hice con mi banda ahí. Estábamos empezando con la banda, como amateurs que éramos, nos escuchábamos horrible jajaja, un día decidimos presentar nuestras canciones a nuestros familiares y amigos para que nos dieran su feedback; cuando empezamos a tocar lo hicimos tocando un cover de una canción llamada “Die, Die My Darling” del grupo The Misfits, el ruido era tan fuerte que a mi casa llegaron dos patrullas de la policía jajajajaja y nos pidieron cancelar todo, les dejo el video de esa presentación, tristemente no pudimos grabar la parte de la policía porque nos pidieron que guardáramos los teléfonos celulares. Son libres de opinar ante la evidencia jajajaja.
También les compartiré este video en donde tocábamos un 31 de diciembre en la casa de un vecino músico, ese día la policía llegó, pero había tanta gente que en vez de cancelarnos el show hicimos que entraran para que la pasaran bien con nosotros jajaja, éramos 6 bandas ese día tocando hasta el amanecer, pero eran navidades así que creo que se podía dejar pasar ¿no creen?
11 . What do your neighbors listen to, do you like it?
Since the beginning of the pandemic and the confinement most of my neighbors stopped playing music, it is rare to hear music in an apartment unless it is in mine or in my next door neighbors apartment; they usually listen to Spanish rock and reggae and I really like it a lot. Before the pandemic many of my neighbors listened to popular music, vallenatos and reggaeton and to be honest I don't like that music, however, I have no problem listening to it.
11. ¿Qué escuchan tus vecinos? ¿Te gusta? Desde el inicio de la pandemia y el confinamiento la mayoría de mis vecinos dejaron poner música, es raro escuchar en un apartamento música a no ser que sea en el mío o en el de mis vecinos de al lado; ellos suelen escuchar rock en español y reggae y de verdad me gusta mucho. Antes de la pandemia muchos de mis vecinos escuchaban música popular, vallenatos y reguetón y para serles honestos esa música no es de mi agrado, sin embargo, no tengo problema en escucharla.
