Back for a Nineties Friday post
A cool initiative started by just a few weeks ago. I missed the first week or maybe weeks and had a list of ideas to post about for several weeks straight. Sadly, I could not make it last week as I was not in a writing mood at all half of the week. This time I'd almost miss it again after having a horrible Wednesday and being very ill, today (it's close to midnight so still officially Thursday) I felt so weak and low on energy that I needed today to recover mostly. Some food and resting did the trick thankfully. Tomorrow I need to dedicate my time to building the new website for my boyfriend while I don't want to miss this week's Nineties Friday, therefore I will publish it before I head to bed, lol.
This week's topic: 2 Unlimited
Last time I shared some Twenty 4 Seven tunes after seeing the 90's documentary series on the Dutch tv. I hoped there would be more episodes than I already saw, but I haven't bumped on them yet so I guess it's just these four. Either way, 2 Unlimited is the one I have the best memories from out of the 4. Therefore this week I will check out their hits and some memories I have from that period.
The area where I grew up
We had a shopping mall, which is super tiny compared to all the malls nowadays, within walking distance of the home where I grew up. That area wasn't the best part of our city, but it surely was the best part of that area. Especially when you had the little mall and an indoor public pool within 5 minutes walking distance you could say it wasn't a bad spot to live. I never liked living in a flat though, but it was what it was, I can consider myself lucky that I grew up in a big flat rather than a tiny one being an only child.
Record store and headphones
I remember that our mall had this record store with cd's and cd singles you could buy and they had like 10 (maybe less, I'm not sure) spots where you could listen to the cd's or singles to know if you wanted to buy them. I don't remember the CD store's name but it was a big company during my childhood. I've always loved music so I was there quite often and even though I was still very young and only had some pocket money, I came to check out the newest singles a lot.
My very first CD single
I remember that I went to the record store with my older cousin who was all fan of 2 Unlimited. I knew their "No Limit" song from TV but wasn't such a fan yet until he took me there to buy the single and I copied his idea with my pocket money so both of us came home with the 2 Unlimited single - No Limit. I was just 9 years old at the time.
From the first moment I heard Anita Doth sing, I loved everything about it. And it surely helped that she and Ray Slijngaard were a great couple. Both attractive young people who had chemistry for sure. I remember that I always thought they'd end up together as a real couple.
2 Unlimited greatest hits
I could overload you with tons of Youtube links but I found this one where you can listen and watch 2 Unlimited's greatest hits all in one video instead:
Throughout the years I remember that I loved most of their songs as they had a catchy vibe and those two surely were easy on the eyes lol.
2 Unlimited History
As the documentary I watched was a few weeks ago while still a bit low on energy, I will refer you to this Wikipedia to learn more about the rise and fall of the 2 Unlimited empire. I personally didn't know what happened between these two to be honest and I also never knew that it all started with two Belgian producers/songwriters to begin with. You can read the whole story here.
Do you remember them?
I know they had big hits but I wonder what my US friends here think of them, do you also remember them from the 90's or weren't they such a big deal in your part of the world as they were on our little end of Europe at the time? It amazes me to read that these bands from so many years ago, hits long gone can still perform until this very day and make money from that.
This was my #NinetiesFriday entry for the week, officially Friday started because it's 5 minutes past midnight in my end of the world, with that said, good night and wishing you a good FriYay :)
Check out 's post later today to join the NinetiesFriday initiative if you have something to share yourself, you can win some HSBI too!
