For those of you that are new to my MidNight Gems series. Welcome to this nightly trip on which we will uncover & recover some amazing songs & covers.
Tonight I'm gonna send your mind home, and I'll take your brain to a mental dimension.
As I have been called a boomer in not such obvious words this week by I thought to start of with some more modern stuff suggested by
in her reply to my little piece of a mental gem, called Ren.
We both seem to favor artists that have dealt with or are dealing with mental struggles.
For me, I just think a little crazy ad personality, but it also adds layers to the sound of music. Layers that you will not soon find in songs by your everyday pop princess even if she is a little bit psycho.
This for me was really the gem of the week, I never heard of Sub Urban, hence it's probably fair to call me a boomer as this song got 600 million views in 3 years' time.
Sub Urban - Cradles
This guy really was such a freaky gift in my comments. Hence the next one that is able to surprise me like that gets a nice little Ecency boost.
Now the other song I was advised to listen to was NF,
NF - Leave Me Alone
Now that guy sounds kinda familiar. I don´t want to say that all white rappers sound like this, but there is definitely some or a lot of Marshall in my diagnosis.
Now also added a fair comment about this guy:
Sleaford Mods ft. Billy Nomates - Mork n Mindy
when I found out he doesn't actually have Tourette's or whatever I was a bit taken aback - Not that I complained too much about it, clearly him putting it on got them more renown. But, yeah, after hearing about him I thought maybe Ren was doing a simular thing, but to be fair, I doubt he is. He seems pretty genuine and I'm glad he's on his way up.
And I feel that as well, it seems that Billie E. has been the catalyst for a whole generation of young girls with (too) much baggage.
K.Flay - Blood In The Cut
And Anger Issues
Lola Blanc - Angry Too
And I love the freakiness, but sometimes I wonder how real is this still and how big is the gimmick. How real are they and their demons?
OMIDO - Me & My Demons
Nothing against Gimmicks in Music Iron Maiden got huge with Eddy and these times we live in are certainly confusing and conflicting, especially growing up and that market should be catered to.
But As someone with real issues once sang, My mind is dangerous, but him/her telling that probably gave comfort to so many out there struggling.
Life of Agony - My Mind is Dangerous
If I look in the mirror I also often wonder why I exist, my chaotic mind doesn´t really help myself.
Sometimes we just have to admit we are drowning, and have the guts to let the world know. Because maybe we don´t see why, but they do know why you & I exist.
Zevia - why do I exist?
Now one of the biggest mental cases in music that was not afraid to be open and honest about it will end the show on a positive Note
Eminem - Stronger Than I Was Lyrics

What the fluff are midnight gems?
Somewhere lost in time, trying to escape out of the rabbit hole back into the rat race there is a vacuum..... that´s the place where midnight gems are found.
My Midnight Gems will try to uncover & recover those beautiful songs that nobody ever noticed or might have been forgotten.
Who the fluff am I?
Being a former DJ playing about everything and having an uncompleted study of radio journalism. I have been wanting to do this for years...Thought about it many nights and guess now it´s time to finally take it to the streets.
Hope you enjoyed this well-known wave of fantastic music and that you still feel like joining me on the next Midnight Gems Session coming soon.
